I hope this does not end his career in the NL. I felt he was a bit positionless on the Cubs. C seems very unlikely after this. LF was never a good idea. Rizzo is a first. So unless the DH makes it to the NL, he may be gone. Hell I have to wonder if he ever comes back from this. He is not a small man so carrying the weight on that leg anywhere in the field may not be viable.
Funny thing is before the game I was thinking to my self that they should start Szczur because he had been hitting so well and he is probably the better defensive OF or the options available.
This sure seems like a black cloud. I hope this does not affect the teams chemistry and mental approach.
To be honest here, Kyle is a catcher playing LF because his bat was light years ahead of the rest of his game. Soler got pushed aside for this reason. Schwarber going down opens up playing time for Soler to prove that he was worth the investment made into him. Not to mention he is a OF not just put out there because it is the spot that he hurts the team the least.
At the end of the day on Schwarber is he is going to be on the mend and he should be focusing on learning. To be honest that is the part of his game is lacking anyways. Learning how to call games and perfecting his craft. Now he can opbserve and focus 100% into that aspect while getting his health back. If it was me I would be watching game video of each game and getting out there and start asking questions on why that choose that pitch sequence or location on that pitch.
Just stay involved.
Now if his injury prevents him from being a catcher I would trade him after he proves healthy. It is not a popular choice but his bat carries weight in the AL as a DH and he would command a huge return. Just saying.
But
I'm no "Doc" and I don't try to pretend to know what his prognosis is....
