Okay so we are at a consensus that most teams have a worse catcher situation than us but still have back up catchers?
No.
Wilson plays the vast majority of games this year.
68 out of 76
So he has had 8 days off all year. There has been 12 weeks this season. So that means his off day for the most part has been 1 per week if that.
Now if you want to match that up against other catchers feel free. I'm just on lunch and really don't have the time.
Now getting to the back up.
The Cubs have burnt through 3. On #4.
It is not by over use. Willson plays almost every game.
So it has to be by under use.
If it was 1 guy injured then it is no big deal. When it becomes 3 then you have to look at why.
The only why going on is non use. Tossed in sporadically.
So what do you do? Bench Wilson more? Burn through 10 back up catchers per year?
Option #3 might make sense.
But if you don't like that then draft SS and catchers only. They can be moved off position but that is added depth in 2 vital positions if needed.
