Im sure Johnson asked for and wanted both of those players - but its first time in this position and ideally is getting strong, experienced guidance from the GM to walk through what these decisions are, and what tradeoffs are being made if you go that route. Do you feel like Ryan Poles is providing him that guidance, or is it perhaps more likely Poles is saying "**** it, wunderkid wants candy let him have candy for dinner?"
I think they work on it together and come up with a consensus target of players. But at some point someone with sanity need to step in and take the ol/dl more seriously than the Matt Millen approach. There is a reason why there is a decade plus track record of losing

My concern is that Ben Johnson is clearly assembling a similar weapon set to the lions. He said he wasn’t going to do that. Do you disagree with this?
Hes running his scheme, I think a ton of similarity is unavoidable with the last stop where he also ran his scheme. I dont see a problematic amount of overlap.

I really wish the Bears had aspired to be the Baltimore Ravens and not the Detroit Lions. Meanwhile many fail to realize the Lions are running team. The Bears have nobody in the same universe as Gibbs and Montgomery.
I’m incredibly excited to watch the bears this year, at a bare minimum it should be much more fun to watch this offense.

My worst fear is the o line has 1 injury that de rails the offense to be incapable of running or passing and they devolve back to wr screens or something else that is unwatchable.

Hopefully the additions to the starting OL are enough, but the depth just ain’t there at all imo

Yeah well, 3 total yards in the first half against the Seahawks is what I call totally dysfunctional. So I am positive that it will be more fun than last year.

Why do you think there isn't depth? We have no clue on how good Amegadjie can be. They drafted a tackle and a guard. They still have Bates, Kramer, and Murray among others as backups. What are you talking about? If teams lose starting OLine to injuries, they are usually screwed, because obviously backup linemen are backups for a reason. The depth is fine. I don't know what you're expecting. They literally signed/traded for 3 new starters in FA.

I wanted Ben Johnson without a question to be the bears HC. While he deserves a chance to fail I am already having doubts after this draft.

He described building the offense in Detroit from the ground up to help Goff. He said he would build this team around the players skill sets and that it would be different than in Detroit.

Then the bears went and drafted their Sam laporta at pick 10. They came back in the second round to take a speedy WR despite other glaring needs. Is burden going to be a gadget player or their Jamison Williams? Both picks seem like luxury picks to me.

They completely ignored safety despite it being an obvious issue.

I don’t hate the players they drafted, but I thought he was going to build something different in Chicago. Maybe he isn’t this genius I thought he was?
Somebody said in the draft thread that a fool had started a thread already doubting Ben Johnson. I came to see who started it and I must say, I would have won a bet.

They did bring in 3 new and proven guys on the offensive line, spent big money. If you look at the offseason as a whole they addressed the offensive line more than any other area. It obviously gave them the opinion they could focus in other areas, and when their picks came up at certain times they did not view o linemen available as worthy of the pick when comparing to other positions and players available. The draft after the first 8 picks was underwhelming at tackle, at least that is what the Bears thought. Time will tell

I do like the players they got but as @cameronkrazie86 mentioned the o line is not solved. They could’ve drafted ersery to compete at LT but opted for the other guy, maybe it works out 🤷🏻‍♂️ even though there were big paydays and upgrades to the interior they did nothing to address depth, I suppose they’re happy with what they have. Something poles has said of the OL multiple times as it was a shit show.

I refuse to believe Loveland was just a poles pick. And when they drafted a slot WR at the top of round 2 Ben Johnson and Randle el were hugging in the war room celebrating. They clearly had a lot of input there.

It might work out for them, but as I mentioned I am officially skeptical of Ben Johnson. Not doubting him, but I’m a little worried.

My primary concern as I mentioned is that Ben Johnson came off as a flexible coach not relying simply on a system. Here he is recreating the Detroit lions. Something smells a little funny. If they put up numbers like the lions all be happy, but I’m not seeing it on paper just yet.
This is way, way more heavy on pass catching weapons than he had in DET. Three first rounders and two second rounders. He never had more than three in DET. Lotta mouths to feed and at the expense of EDGE, S, and depth at RB and IOL.

Just put me on ignore since all you can handle is circle jerk of bears ownership

Seems to me, that after the bears missed out on Jeanty, Henderson and Judkins they might have just threw in the towel on adding a RB. unless they are looking at Dobbins in FA like I mentioned in a differentpost , why they did'nt select Watts is mind boggling

Did you completely ignore what I wrote or are you just choosing to not address the points I brought up?
I didn’t ignore it. You like the draft picks but having doubts about Ben Johnson already because he isn’t building the team like the Lions did. You are upset because Ben Johnson & Ryan Poles didn’t address positions that you wanted.

Can’t fix everything in one draft…..it’s poles 4th year lmfffao give me a break
Read what I wrote again. Can’t fix everything in one draft with a new staff. Getting a new staff was a fresh start for Poles. I don’t want Poles to be the GM either. Facts are, he is not building a team for Johnson and Allen.
