Ricketts doesn't want to eat money for these guys. Especially with no trade the only way you trade any of these guys is paying for their mega contracts and hoping they waive their NTC.

I'm so sick of "dah just get rid of these guys" posts on this board without any regard to salary, contract lengths, stipulations, etc. Do you people know anything?

I do put contracts into factors when I type trade offers.

The Cubs have to try and get rid of some veterans and look to the future. If Jim Hendry is smart, he'll build a team w/ $80 million coming off the books in the next 2 years

If JH was smart :nelson: Maybe this year but he won't be back next year. That's what I think. The Cubs are trying to trade Lilly and re-sign him in FA. And are also trying to trade Lee.

I doubt they'll re-sign Lee and I really hope they don't re-sign Lilly. His loss in velocity is really hurting him and the Cubs have a lot of good, young arms in the minors

I wish Aramis would opt out of his deal in the offseason, but I doubt he does w/ the horrendous season he's having

You bet your ass Aramis will be exercising that option year.

And for the last time, this "getting rid of veterans" thing isn't going to happen when the veterans are all signed to huge deals with NO TRADE PROTECTION AT THE VERY LEAST.

Lilly will be traded along with Gorzo and Theriot in my opinion. I think these players won't be as hard to trade with Fontnot or Baker.

You're not getting rid of Lilly without having to pay most of what's left on his contract, something ownership won't be too keen on. And why are you going to just start trading your arb-eligible players away? If the goal is to cut down on payroll and build for the future, you would want to hold on to these guys.

This is like the 24685th time someone has had to explain this either to you or someone else in this section alone. Jesus.
