I read earlier that her 17 yr old son committed suicide like a year ago, and she was struggling mentally. Suicide possibly.

So sad. Her pope stunt on SNL was a historical moment.

RIP

I can now name four more Sinead O’Connor songs than I could have five minutes ago.

And she was 100% correct in retrospect with her protest, but got absolutely dragged for it

Interesting... ABC nightly news misreported Sinéad O’Connor ripped up a picture of the Pope on SNL to protest the Roman Catholic child molestations, which is not correct.

She did a radio interview the next day with a host with a heavy Jamaican accent who grilled her about it. I listened to it. She said she was protesting the part the RC played in a food embargo against Ireland at some point in history.

That's the state of national news these days. Makes me wonder if the report writer knew it was false, but just can't resist taking political shots.

That is 100% incorrect. She has made it clear many times the reason for the protest was the Catholic Church protecting pedo priests.

Memory is an odd thing. She was young, and has since stated many times that abuse was on her mind, in interviews and in her memoir.

I am not defending ABC, or the media, but this is just a weak bash of the media.

Here is the interview Sculpt is referring to.

It clearly did happen as Sculpt said which makes what he said 100% correct. She did go on to say it was about abuse of children from within the church. In reality, the picture just represented evil to her. She had said it was the only picture on the wall in her mother's bedroom and she saw her mother as being evil and that picture of the pope to be representative of evil. She had always thought of ripping that picture up and had just been looking for the right moment to do it.

I don't blame you for being mislead. I've heard it repeated many times that O'Connor did it for the RC sexual abuse. And it was all incorrect. She stated at length why she ripped up the picture the next day in an interview. And she repeated that same reason in other interviews.

She said all of the main ills of Irish society (including things like alcoholism and domestic abuse) is caused by child abuse (which she says she was a daily victim at the hands of her mother). And this was caused by the English invasion of Ireland, splitting up families, repressing their language, culture, beliefs and not allowing them to teach their own children. And also exasperating the Great Potato Famine. And that the Pope permission for the invasion, knowing the English used starvation as a method for control.

The RC sexual abuse explicitly was not her reason. I mean you could throw it in there along with alcoholism and domestic violence, but that's beside the point. People tend to believe what that want to. I'm not Catholic, but untruths really bug me.

It's all in video if you need proof. It's kinda sad too that the beginning of the video has a text crawl that says she was protesting the RC sex abuse, but to anyone who listens to her she makes clear the reason was that the Pope gave permission to take over Ireland.

You are obsessed, weird, and wrong. That video was posted by Xuder O'Clam yesterday, two posts before yours. Did you not notice that fact because you are not reading anything posted by anyone else, or you saw but decided to reposted it anyway because you are insane?

So now an insane person has turned this thread into a debate about how insane another insane person is. That's great.

lol What are you cross about? I saw the two prior posts before I posted mine. They don't speak for me. I replied to your reply to me. Is that an odd thing now?

Before I came back to the forum, I spent a lot of time looking for the interview on searches and youtube; because at the time I made my first post, I didn't know if it was still "out there". I had forgotten it was a video too, I thought it was just a radio show. I did eventually find it on youtube. I came back to the forum and read your reply to me and the other two posts. (I saw Xuder found the video. He probably had an easier time than I did.) The posts were interesting takes. I wanted to reply to your post to me, which I consider a courteous thing to do. I think my explanation of what she said is a good summary, and not at all the same as the prior posts. I didn't intend any offense.

I did notice in some of O'Connor's later interviews, she sometimes "adjusted" her reason to being the RC sexual abuse; only she knows why she did that sometimes, but she had already stated her reasons before.

Not a chance. I have no interest in reading the ramblings of a lunatic.

it doesn't matter to me why she did it, because regardless, it's a thing and her gesture called attention to it whether or not she intended it

Agreed. And while there is lots to criticize about the sate of news media today, this is not near the top, and hardly rates.

I find it more interesting that likely the majority of people hailing her now, probably crucified her then.

And pretty well all of the people touting that obnoxious child trafficking movie also crucified her then.
