I like how the dude has a scale that is used to determine the progress of a civilization’s technological development. How the hell do you even develop something like that? Hope they find something, that would be badass.

It could just be solar magnetism from a distant star generating the signal. Relax. The body snatchers won't be here anytime soon.

I liked this part:

Well, that would require less energy and could indicate the presence of a Kardashev Type I civilization—meaning that it could be a highly technological, contemporary society that harnesses the solar energy emitted by its local star, much like our planet does with solar panels. This particular civilization’s social structure is theorized to be completely globalized and interconnected.

Lmao not only are you guessing at their supposed technology level but you are theorizing about their society on top of it.... pump the brakes

The fact that they waited a year and a half to release this makes me think they took time to take all other possible theories into account.

They have one of these "signal" stories in the news every 6 months or so.

One thing I found lacking.... what is it about the signal that makes them think it is from an alien civilization?

They did not seem to delve into this part of it very much.... if they have had it for over a year you would think they could tell us why they believe it is a signal from an intelligent alien civilization.

The technology level makes sense. Estimating a civilizations level by it's ability to use it's local resources makes sense. As far as globalization, that assumption is made because of the level of resources required to actually harness the energy output of your local star.

SETI Signal

"We can’t claim the detection of an extraterrestrial civilization from this observation. What we can say is that the signal is interesting and merits further scrutiny."

"The possibility of noise of one form or another cannot be ruled out, and researchers in Paris led by Jean Schneider are considering the possible microlensing of a background source by HD164595."

So it's interesting but not proof of anything. The Transformers are not arriving anytime soon.
