I think Rick Hahn is a smart baseball guy and I have a lot of respect for him. He's way brighter than Kenny Williams - in my opinion. And I think the WS have had an excellent off-season by filling their obvious needs.

Having said that, they still suck and the Cubs have better ownership, a better FO, better coaches, and better prospects.

He has to be critical of something, since nobody patrols the Sox forums :obama:

Still, I agree it's wise for the Sox to push on the gas a bit with the Tigers in flux. You have to figure they'll entertain extending Samardzija, especially if his performance is on par with what he's done over the last two seasons.

popularity contests are cool and stuff

I like the Sox bold moves. LaRoche is a little expensive, they spent a lot of money on a reliever, and Shark may be a one year rental, so they may be looking back regretting spending this money, and trying to dump big salaries they committed to this offseason.

But I think they've done a good job addressing needs and shooting for the playoffs when they see Detroit is vulnerable. Their division, with two playoff teams, including the pennant winner, is still wide open. So they went for it.

Ironically, DewsSox says the Cubs offering money to Lester in 2015 is a waste of money because the prospects won't yet be ready to contend. yet the Sox committed money to their guys beyond 2015, when Shark will be gone. He'd be full on critical if the Cubs made these moves. :)

not at all. spread the lester money around if you want to go there.

Sox still need a catcher (one that's worth a damn) another outfielder and probably one more arm in the pen.

Then it's full on contention mode.

I agree, though to be honest the catchers in town right now all are kinda bleh and good ones are hard to find.

I don't really understand the argument. Who cares who is better. If both teams are competing it is just that much better and this just makes up for terrible pathetic bears season. What I think is that semien and phegley were expendable. Sox have way more short stops and 2nd baseman and semien might never break through them. Phegley is Phegley. Basset was a good pitcher and showed promise sometimes and sometimes he was just below average. This is a good time to be a baseball fan in chicago. Sox already said they want to extend shark and have him paired up with Quintana and Sale for a long time. Yeah we might have over payed for a bullpen pitcher but we payed money for a guy that has a lot of promise and showed he can close out game. Sox had over 20 blown saves last year. We had 73 wins. Add 10-15 more wins from the saves and we were right there in the division. Maybe to other team having a Robertson was alright. To white sox it is huge. I am just happy to see both teams make moves and living in a house hold with 3 other cub fans and 4 white sox fans. It is just a great time.
