Lackey has already adjusted at how to pitch now that his velocity has dropped. Shark has not.
Lackey the last three years has posted a 3.52, 3.82, and 2.77 ERA with a 37-33 record in both the NL and AL.
Shark the last three years is at a 4.34, 2.99, and a 4.96 ERA with a 26-39 record in both the NL and AL.
Lackey 32 million, and Shark 90 million.
Am I missing something here? If nothing else, I can tell you where the better value is.
Take away the one really good year from both of them in the ERA department as if it were an outlier and look what you have?
Point is, he going to be 37 and 38 YO these next 2 yrs.
The percentage is higher that he not going to hold up at that age..
He can also end up like david ross and his batting AVG.
Ross was a .250 - 60 hitter at 34,35 and ended up under .200 the last 2 years.
I understand it only 2/32 but it would be a shame if they ended up wasting that money and 2 yrs. .
As far as Samardzija goes, im not a Samardzija guy at all
But between him and Lackey, i would've taken my chances on him..
Besides weren't you along with others telling me/us how Samardzija would be much better back with Bosio and the Cubs and how the sox were using him wrong. Etc etc etc
All this said, now that it over and Lackey a Cub..
hope he wins the Cy Young
