Some say he's told the team he's willing to take a cap friendly deal

Oduya? I would keep him if he stayed at around $4m. But even then, I'm not sure if the Hawks can afford that.

As much as I like him, we don't really have the luxury of paying him anymore than that. We have a lot of good, young defenseman coming up through the pipeline.

Johns, IMO, is a can't miss prospect. The guy will definitely be an NHL D-man, possibly top 4. Also Pokka, van Riemsdyk and Paliotta have some decent potential, and will probably be on the Hawks at some point. Not to mention, Rundblad and Cumiskey are serviceable in their own right.

As much as I'd like to keep Oduya, he's not really a priority for me. I would be perfectly fine with any combination of the above prospects I identified above getting a chance next year. Pick 3 of those 6 above, and I think you let them grow in the NHL next year.

Hjarll's game was horrible when the Hawks moved Campbell and before Oduya

Lose Oduya....you lose Hjarll.

That young group can be put in the 5-6-7 role...but not top 4. I'd be shocked if Oduya is gone at the end of this year.

They don't always play together. I think Hjalmarsson is past that point in his career, he would be fine.

Hammer wasn't horrible without campbell, he was actually better that year than he had been at the start of 2010-11, because that year he felt he needed to vastly up his game and play a more all around different style to make up for his salary. He's a far more refined and in control player who played well to start the year NOT playing with Oduya anyway. He had TVR on his side for a bit looking fine.

Oduya can walk with ease.

You don't NEED another top 4 role in October/November because the team won't need to have the lines matched to having a top 4. You can split guys around maybe just have 1 of the 3 lines have a 2 veteran unit. If it's a huge issue that doesn't seem to be developing any better there's a trade market for you.

My concern is what happened to the hawks blueline in the 2010/11 season. As much as i love Duncs he made it very obvious and admitted that he was burnt out that year after they won the cup the season prior. Now not sure if that will happen again as that first cup win and the media aftermath really burnt these guys out. This year it should be a more of an ease if they do win. But that cup hangover does effect a blueline so im not 100% sold on the idea that the Hawks are okay to let Oduya walk. Im an Oduya fan anyways so im bias. Im still not that confident in the blueline prospect club.

In contrast to 11, they have options to fill in that are far more developed and NHL ready or capable than Nick Leddy was as a 19 year old and better options even as rookies likely than what Hendry/Cullimore could be.

Btw, Bickell is currently concussed like it seemed obvious after the whole game 7 situation.

Very cool if true. I doubt he'll have as a good a line-mate as Hjammer no matter where he goes (yeah, I know they're not always paired). Probably less of chance at a Cup win too.

because coaches always tell the media when players are injured in the playoffs, and what the injury is.

Coach Joel Quenneville said Bickell passed "the concussion test because he never had one."
Pressed further, Quenneville cut off the reporter and said: "I'm not gettin' into the injury."

Which caused quite a chuckle!
