Really dislike the SO. I have always been fine with ties.
I'd freak out big time if the playoffs switched....like to the point that I'd say to hell with the sport.
With the current format there needs to be a larger significance assigned to regulation wins - ea 3 points.
Agree completely on the 3 points. There needs to be more of a rewards for winning in a hard fought 60 minute (or 65 minutes) game versus the shootout. I'd like to see the following...
Regulation win - 3 points; Regulation loss - 0 points
Overtime win - 3 points; overtime loss - 0 points
Shootout win - 2 points; shootout loss - 1 point
Winning in regulation or overtime should net you the three points. The only issue that could happen is teams might play it safe in overtime just to get the guaranteed points, however I don't see that happening with the 4 on 4 format.
I'm all for the shootout if there must be a "winner" decided - even though I'm just fine with a tie. Unlimited overtimes in the regular season would just be too much wear and tear...just imagine how bad that would be in a shortened season.
