If you do trap it how do you handle the trap without getting sprayed by the pissed off skunk?

I figured I was going to throw a towel over top the trap and then maybe a garbage bag?? But I have to admit, I do fear this every morning when I check the trap, lol.

Believe it or not a skunk very rarely will spray you. I remember on Mythbusters they were pissing off caged skunks as well as they could and they just were not able to get them to spray.

Where you live RTB, I would just call an animal control expert, and if you have a fence around your yard, after removal install a barrier under the fence about a foot deep to keep them out in the future.

Do you have any ideas? I'm off tomorrow, so I was going to head to my local hardware store and get whatever they recommended TBH. That area gets lots of shade due to 2 big pine trees and a big maple too. So there are a few spots of moss and not so healthy grass. I'm honestly considering ripping everything out and restart, but I fear the same would eventually happen due to poor sunlight.

My neighbors were sick of racoons fuckingup our trash all over the place and then were scared by the rabies. I offered my services and they opted for them instead of the $1000 it would cost to trap and relocate the vermin...

Where RTB lives, if he shot off a gun in his back yard and killed a skunk, it would be front page news and he would be crucified. I`m also guessing he likely does not own or have access to a gun.

Have the hardware store recommend something fir the grubs. The grass will come back usually. Then going forward you need to pre treat the grass a few weeks before grubs start

I don't own a gun currently. I did share some riffles with my dad growing up though, which he still has but are now registered to him.

If the grubs are bad, and the skunk is actually rolling the sod up, you may need to go for some Merit to treat or, more expensively, time consuming, yet environmentally more sound, you could look into nematodes.
To keep the skunk from rolling or digging, you can use chicken wire or a snow fence and lay it over the affected areas until you have controlled. After all of this, there are good shade grass seeds one can overseed with.
