My favorite teams
I prefer Android. Once I had a Windows phone.... never again. That thing sucked.
Much prefer the Andriod OS over iOS (though there are some features on the iPhone I prefer, but not many).
Not sure why you think Android OS is shit.
As an iphone user, I'm fairly quick to point out the deficiencies of the OS. Android is definitely on the ups lately, but I still can make fun of my friends because their phones lag and mine doesn't. :elephant:
Heh, crazy bump.
Cyanogenmod > all.
Automated tasks is one thing.
Google Music is launched anytime I step into my car and music starts to play. No need for me to open the app it is automatic.
At night when I get in my car my brightness is turned down (during the day it is turned up), volume is turned up and my phone syncs via bluetooth to my deck. GPS is turned on, mobile data is turned on. Wifi is turned off. Any text messages or google voice messages I get are read through my speakers in the car. Audio is paused while the messages are read and it resumes after the messages is completed.
When I travel to Georgia my phone automatically sends a text messages to specifc people letting them know when I have reached a specific city.
AT WORK
When I get to work my ringer is turned on silent and vibrate. Mobile data shuts off and turns on to sync every 15 mins for 2 mins. Also anytime at work my screen is on data is on. When I turn the screen off data shuts off.
Leaving work (anytime) - data is turned on, ringer is turned up.
At night at home my ringer automatically goes silent at 11pm, and exception list lets people through anytime of the day. My ringer turns back on at 6am. (Sunday - Thursday)
I automate my ringer, brightness, bluetooth, data, wifi. Anytime I'm at home my lock screen is disabled. When I leave home my lock screen is enabled.
I can go on and on. All of this is automated. I do not interact with it. It is done automatically.
That isn't half of the things my phone does automatically.
------------------------------
NFC - Anytime I go to RiteAid I leave my wallet in the car. When I go to the register and hold my phone over the debit card machine. My phone sends a wireless debit to the cashier. Receipt prints, item is paid for without cash, without a debit card, without my touching the debit machine.
"control center" - Android has had that for years. It just wasn't named.
When I listen to music I never unlock my phone to change songs. I long press my volume down button and it goes to the next song. If I want to go back I long press up and it goes back.
I really could go on and on.
I also do the close range transfer thing. It uses NFC and Wifi direct. I send Game of Thrones episodes to coworkers that don't have HBO via "Send Pro!". Basically the S3 commercial with the wife sending video to her husband before his trip.
---------------------
XBMC is installed on my phone. I have navi-x installed as well. Think of just about any torrent. I stream it straight to my phone.
----------------------
I play Nes, genesis, and snes roms on my phone. I use my PS3 controller to play them, it is synced via bluetooth. Any android game I play, Dead Trigger, etc, I play them with a PS3 controller. On my tablet I run MAME and play arcade games on it via my PS3 controller.
I wouldn't dive into Ubuntu mobile. The ARM/embedded mobile developers aren't exactly aces at solving the whole transition problem. But then again, I'm fairly biased and don't like the direction Canonical has headed in over the last 5 years. Bloated linux based distributions with sneaky elements scattered within. If they can't work transparently within GNU and GPLs within the desktop, why would you trust them to provide a solution that is reliable for your phone(a device that you need for emergencies)?
Firefox OS looks like it's way behind, but that could also work in its favor. I think Firefox OS has a better shot at second banana within the linux based phones once everything is production ready. It already runs the smallest footprint of secure smartphone OS's. Too bad the dev units that are purchasable have wimpy hardware specs, like sub 1gb ram and severely outdated 1ghz or less CPUs.
I have Jail broken all my iPhones since 2009. I think I would prefer an Android phone but that isn’t in the cards for me as long as my wife and MIL owns a smart phone. IOS is intuitive and so easy for a non tech person to just pick up and use out of the box. My wife and my mother in law rely on me to be their tech support so it’s easier for me to own one too.
Jailbreaking the IOS used to be a big deal for me to get all the features of an android. Nowadays the benefits of jailbreaking are fewer.

actually there are a lot of things on that list that IOS can do and almost all of them can be done after Jail breaking. That list must be old.
I never like KitKats anyway.
