I prefer Android. Once I had a Windows phone.... never again. That thing sucked.

Much prefer the Andriod OS over iOS (though there are some features on the iPhone I prefer, but not many).

Not sure why you think Android OS is shit.

I prefer it to iOS, and anything currently made, but it is still buggy. And fragments like crazy. It is getting better.

However webOS was so far ahead of it's time, that that Apple and Google are just now starting to integrate features (some of which still don't operate to the levels they did on webOS). And u did not need to root, and flash roms, or Jailbreak to get the mods you want-all you needed to do was type in the konami code, and voila-truly open source.

And multitasking? Forget about it...you could run 40+aps simultaneously on a Pre, back when android was still bumping it's head w/eclair.

Android is getting better, but it still has a ways to go. It is my is os choice now, but in a perfect world, I would still be rocking the latest version of webOS.

However, Palm's piss poor marketing and implementation was their downfall. Sad, because the world lost something truly special.

Anybody tried ubuntu phone? that looked interesting when I was reading about it. Apparently when it is finished completely it's code will be identical to the desktop code or something. It may already be finished.

I wouldn't dive into Ubuntu mobile. The ARM/embedded mobile developers aren't exactly aces at solving the whole transition problem. But then again, I'm fairly biased and don't like the direction Canonical has headed in over the last 5 years. Bloated linux based distributions with sneaky elements scattered within. If they can't work transparently within GNU and GPLs within the desktop, why would you trust them to provide a solution that is reliable for your phone(a device that you need for emergencies)?

Firefox OS looks like it's way behind, but that could also work in its favor. I think Firefox OS has a better shot at second banana within the linux based phones once everything is production ready. It already runs the smallest footprint of secure smartphone OS's. Too bad the dev units that are purchasable have wimpy hardware specs, like sub 1gb ram and severely outdated 1ghz or less CPUs.

ios is far and away the best and that's just the honest truth of it all. Not that big a fan of Apple but when it comes to phones there's iphones and then lesser phones.

As someone who's had both, I like Android better. I rooted my Samsung Gs3 and customized it to the fullest. I actually went with a custom ROM and liked Paranoid Android (wasn't big on Pac-ROM because the keyboard kept shutting down), but since I had a rough time restoring my contacts and unable to connect it to Kies, I went back to Jelly Bean and just customized best I could. I might go back to Paranoid Android and **** with it a bit more, but it just takes a long time restoring my shit if it's fucked up.

As an iphone user, I'm fairly quick to point out the deficiencies of the OS. Android is definitely on the ups lately, but I still can make fun of my friends because their phones lag and mine doesn't. :elephant:

Could be because of the bloatware. Once I got rid of a lot of that shit, my phone ran so much smoother. I still tinker here and there, but if you **** up and delete the wrong app, time for a reboot, and a re-root. Shit starts to become time consuming.

Heh, crazy bump.

Cyanogenmod > all.

Have yet to try, I hear it's Android at its core. I went with Paranoid Android for customization but couldn't recover my contacts and I was too lazy to type them all in again LOL. I tried Pac-Man first and couldn't get it to run properly. Took forever for me to get the flashes to work too. TWRP kept fucking up my phone. It wasn't until I put Clockwork Mod that I got the files to flash properly.

It's gonna be Android for the foreseeable future. I just can't ever see myself buying into Apple or Windows when it comes to cell phones.

I posted this on another forum. It was about the same topic. The question was asked. "What are all these things Android users keep talking about that IOS can't do?"

Automated tasks is one thing.

Google Music is launched anytime I step into my car and music starts to play. No need for me to open the app it is automatic.

At night when I get in my car my brightness is turned down (during the day it is turned up), volume is turned up and my phone syncs via bluetooth to my deck. GPS is turned on, mobile data is turned on. Wifi is turned off. Any text messages or google voice messages I get are read through my speakers in the car. Audio is paused while the messages are read and it resumes after the messages is completed.

When I travel to Georgia my phone automatically sends a text messages to specifc people letting them know when I have reached a specific city.

AT WORK
When I get to work my ringer is turned on silent and vibrate. Mobile data shuts off and turns on to sync every 15 mins for 2 mins. Also anytime at work my screen is on data is on. When I turn the screen off data shuts off.

Leaving work (anytime) - data is turned on, ringer is turned up.

At night at home my ringer automatically goes silent at 11pm, and exception list lets people through anytime of the day. My ringer turns back on at 6am. (Sunday - Thursday)

I automate my ringer, brightness, bluetooth, data, wifi. Anytime I'm at home my lock screen is disabled. When I leave home my lock screen is enabled.

I can go on and on. All of this is automated. I do not interact with it. It is done automatically.

That isn't half of the things my phone does automatically.
------------------------------

NFC - Anytime I go to RiteAid I leave my wallet in the car. When I go to the register and hold my phone over the debit card machine. My phone sends a wireless debit to the cashier. Receipt prints, item is paid for without cash, without a debit card, without my touching the debit machine.

"control center" - Android has had that for years. It just wasn't named.

When I listen to music I never unlock my phone to change songs. I long press my volume down button and it goes to the next song. If I want to go back I long press up and it goes back.

I really could go on and on.

I also do the close range transfer thing. It uses NFC and Wifi direct. I send Game of Thrones episodes to coworkers that don't have HBO via "Send Pro!". Basically the S3 commercial with the wife sending video to her husband before his trip.

---------------------

XBMC is installed on my phone. I have navi-x installed as well. Think of just about any torrent. I stream it straight to my phone.
----------------------

I play Nes, genesis, and snes roms on my phone. I use my PS3 controller to play them, it is synced via bluetooth. Any android game I play, Dead Trigger, etc, I play them with a PS3 controller. On my tablet I run MAME and play arcade games on it via my PS3 controller.

I despise Unity.

Granted I spend 99% of my time in the terminal.

I have Jail broken all my iPhones since 2009. I think I would prefer an Android phone but that isn’t in the cards for me as long as my wife and MIL owns a smart phone. IOS is intuitive and so easy for a non tech person to just pick up and use out of the box. My wife and my mother in law rely on me to be their tech support so it’s easier for me to own one too.

Jailbreaking the IOS used to be a big deal for me to get all the features of an android. Nowadays the benefits of jailbreaking are fewer.

I'm going to say out of that list less than 15% can be done via jailbreaking an IOS device. Tasker as I stated does an endless amount of things and it alone is reason to own an Android. It is crazy.

No argument over ease of use. My parents are over 60 and picked up IOS without a hitch. For me there is far too much lacking in IOS.
