Look we need to get a top QB this year just based on Cutler's age alone. Sure he is playing well but not top level.

You really think Cutler has been playing at a top level? Top of what? Cutler has been decent but by no stretch is he playing at a top level.

Getting an ultra-talented QB for the future is by no means a waste. Cutler is going to be 34 next year and after a decade of mediocrity you don't think the Bears should look towards the future? Good teams have succession plans in place and that is what Hackenberg in the second would be.

I agree that we need to get a succession plan in place, I just don't think I would use my 1st or second round pick on a QB this next season, unless someone absolutely fell into my lap. I think we would do better to get a Lineman and a secondary or LB guy and try to find a gem in the third round, knowing that if we miss we still have another chance the next year to get a cutty replacement.

2016: if we have a shot at a good QB.
2017: no matter what happens get one

Absolutely not to Hackenberg. Wtf is up with all the hype for this kid. He needs to stay for his senior year and develop more he's not even close to being ready.

Hack would not have to start here for 2 or maybe even 3 years. Any coaching he'd get from an NFL organization would be better than going back to Penn State and playing in a spread for another year.

I don't see a lot of hype around Hack lately which is why I have him available in the second. I like him as a prospect as he has all the physical tools and has done well with limited talented around him. He learned a pro style offense straight out of high school and I see no reason why the Bears, or any team with a competent coaching staff, couldn't develop him better than those at Penn State who have him running a spread now despite his sstrengths running a pro.

Get one into the building.

Not neccasserily in the 1st round, but at some point we need to start the development process.

I don't think the Bears will take Leonard Floyd. I could be way off base here, but the Bears passed on Beasley at 245lbs in the 1st, and Randy Gregory at 235lbs in the 2nd. Floyd is listed at 231lbs. He has been moved to playing off the ball LB by Georgia this year, and I think that's his role at the next level. He can't hold the edge in a base 3-4 defense. I think there's a lot of Jamie Collins to his game. He's been really good in coverage this year, and still adds that speed element to the outside rush. At 6'4", if he could even get to 245-250, without losing much athleticism, he could be the next Von Miller. But right now, he looks like the exact same guy as Randy Gregory.

If Fangio's track record is any indication I think he would prefer bigger OLBs.

His guys in SF were huge, and now he has McPhee is even bigger than them.

OLBs in this system seem to be flat defenders, they do not need to be great in coverage or sacrifice power for agility. Acho is asked to down little more, but he also doesn't rush the passer.

While weight is a consideration that is something Floyd can change. I always felt the Bears passed on Beasley due to length. While we don't have official measurements it is plain to see on tape that Floyd has much better length and uses it well. When the combine measurements come in I feel Floyd will have more than enough length for Fangio and we have seen countless edge rushers put on considerable weight before the combine and during the offseason.

I feel that he is a superior prospect to Gregory who the Cowboys were high on pre-injury. It is still early in the process and a lot can and will change, but Floyd is one of the prospects I think would be worth a top 10 pick and would be a great compliment to McPhee with his speed rush and coverage ability. I will add that he is better against the run than he is given credit for and that the position change was down in an attempt to prevent teams from running away from him.

Agreed, that would be better... for Hackenberg, but not the Bears.

Can't argue with most of that. He's definitely solid against the run for his size. And yes that is why UGA moved him. I even agree about the length thing. I think a lot will depend how he looks in shorts strangely enough. 240 and my eyes start to open a little more. 245-250 and I'm sold.

After you get past the 2 OL (Stanley, Tunsil), 2 DBs (Ramsey, Hargreaves), Goff, Nkemdiche and Bosa.....I think think 8-15 could go in several directions.

They need to take a QB this year. I don't care what the media goons say, I believe this is one of better QB classes approaching the draft. The put off the QB position until next year mentality needs to go.

Disagree that Hack has all of the physical tools. His feet are Orton esqe slow in and around the pocket. The arm is obviously there. Cringeworthy lower half

Throws off his back foot, has tunnel vision *dash* is easily read by defenders, has rocket for an arm but makes questionable decisions...

That sounds really familiar...

So if Connor Cook is there when we pick in round one, should we pull the trigger?? No trolling, honest question!!

Hack does have some Cutler-like qualities but I think he has improved with his decision making. He had too many interceptions last season but had a 2:1 TD-INT ratio as a true freshman in a pro-style offense and has 11 TDs and only 2 INTs this year despite playing in a system not suited for his skill-set and a real lack of surrounding talent.

I am not 100% sold on him by any means, and there are many aspects he needs to improve but the talent is there and at the top of the second he is certainly worth the pick. I would like to see Gase have a chance to groom a talented QB be it Hack or someone else.
