Yea, made it to Hendersonville today, funny, the "main" road between Hendersonville and Asheville, beside the interstate, is Hwy 25. They plowed the middle turning lane only for, I'm guessing here, emergency vehicles. Mind you it is a 5 lane road and one of the main roadways in Asheville. Good thing I'm in a lifted, big tire 4x4.

But, but.... 4WD is stupid and useless cause it doesn't help you stop better, right?

You disagree? Because I'd like to hear the explanation behind how having the ability to make all 4 of your wheels spin will somehow help you when you when you hit a patch of ice, hit your brakes so that none of your wheels are actually turning and you’re still moving forward.

I'm confused are you "for or against" 4WD helping you stop better?

I'm just waiting to hear an explanation of how it could possibly be true.

If the road is covered in ice and you start sliding, it won't matter if you have 2WD, 4WD or AWD because at that point you don't want any of your tires spinning.

Nah man I am not disagreeing with that, just smh at the people who cling to the notion that AWD or 4WD is not extremely useful with lots of snow/ice on the ground.

I always say, you have to drive just as slow and safe as everyone else, but its easier to do that in an AWD or 4WD than in a FWD or RWD vehicle.

I drove a Grand Am through 5 different heavy snow storms in college and I have driven my Dodge Durango through this entire winter..... AWD wins hands down.

I don't care if people don't want to have an AWD vehicle, go right ahead.... but the fact that people try to talk about AWD like its an unnecessary or stupid thing to have are just idiotic IMO.

4WD certainly has it’s uses. I have a suburban with 4WD and it’s nice to have in snow in the winter or mud in the summertime.

But while I disagree with anyone that says it’s useless, the people that say it doesn’t help you stop faster aren’t wrong.

That's why you drop the plow when brakes aren't helping. Slows you down right now. Only had to do it twice. Hope I never need to do it again.

No they are not wrong in that assessment.... but that is the reasoning I get from people saying its a useless thing to have on your vehicle? See why they piss me off now? :D

I actually know a guy that has a big Dodge pickup with only RWD. I was shocked when I heard about it. I didn’t even know that was an option. I thought having a big pickup with 4WD was pretty much standard.

Then he complains about having to drive it in the snow.

I’m just like: Well DUH!

When I was a teenager I drove and old POS camaro with RWD. It sucked in the winter.

My G37 is part time AWD and I love it, I can kick the back end out when I take a right or left to make the turn easier and then the AWD kicks in the front end pulls the car straight and I only have to feather the gas slightly.

Tell your buddy to pack the bed of that 2WD truck with anything to add weight...Weight is about as important as 4WD is

Its not useless at all..It helps you maintain control...But it sure doesnt help ya stop any faster.. BTW...4WD means 1 wheel pulls in the rear, and 1 in front..Thats standard

I drive FWD in the snow, and it doesn't bother me at all. And I'm not an AWD or 4x4 hater. I live in a fairly rural suburb, so it's rarely plowed or salted. I had a WRX for one winter, and a Grand Cherokee for another winter. It's definitely nice in the winter to have all four spinning.

When I was a technician for AT&T, I drove this RWD pickup through a bad winter. That really sucks. But when I had the GTO and The Supra, that wasn't anywhere near as bad. It's all about weight distribution and wheel/tire if you want to justify any kind of RWD on a slick surface.

If you save $2000+ a year on gas, money on maintenance, and money on insurance, a set of steels and snow tires is not a bad deal at all. I'm on the 4th year for this set of basic blizzaks and steelies. My traction is on par with the Subaru that I had before in the snow without snow tires and I have a heapload more money in my pocket for other things.

I have a Chevy Colorado with the Z71 package..Its a 5.3 V8 that has a locker rear axle..That means that I have 3 wheels pulling when in 4WD. 2 in the rear and 1 in the front..I also have chains on the rear tires as well as a bed full of firewood for weight..I was barely able to get up the hill to my house last night..lol

Do you buy it or do you cut it yourself? I have been shopping around for next year and I found a place that will deliver and stack it.... 150$ for a Face Cord and 20$ for delivery/stacking.
