I think the Bears have to go all in on Trey Smith, honestly. Why is KC moving on from a 25 year old starter? Is it just the money?

Either way, the draft has an abundance of LG and a severe shortage of everything else. Bears probably should grab 3 guards this draft; let them battle it out in camp while learning all 3 interior positions. Best one able to convert to center starts there, then most talented after that starts at LG, and then the last one becomes depth for all 3 interior positions.

Honestly, even better if the Bears can grab a decent FA center and LG on short term deals, and still draft 3 LGs - it buys you time to convert 2 of them, and also get everyone up to NFL standards. Bears need depth in a bad way.

Agree with everything here.

To answer your question, yes. The Chiefs have over $150 million a year tied up in 4 guys:
*Mahomes
*Chris Jones
*Jawaan Taylor
*Joe Thuney

That's not even counting the $20 million a year for Kelce, the $6 million they pay a kicker, and whatever inevitable veterans who want a ring they go after during this free agency period.

If they kept Trey Smith, they would be allocating around $85 million a year to their starting o-line, growing to probably $100 million the following year.

Their cap situation isn't bad, but it is *verrryyy* top-heavy.

I've been saying for years that the Chiefs run their financial situation like they're playing Madden. They've done EXTREMELY well in threading the needle (It helps when you have the best QB in the world, the best TE in the world, and the best coach in the world.), but sooner or later, even with those amazing guys, the rent comes due.

Round 1) LT- Josh Conerly
Round3) CENTER - Jake Majors

FA) LG - Tre Smith (I believe he will hit FA). Andy Reid will draft another GUARD and have them playing at a PB level in a years time.

Keep Tevin Jenkins and put him at RG where he belongs.

Draft another developmental OG in the late rounds

LT - Josh Conerly
LG - Tre Smith
CENTER- Jake Majors
RG- Tevin Jenkins
RT - Darnell Wright

Ad a Bell Cow HB like Kaleb Johnson and that's a fucking unit right there.

I'd go into any scrap with that bunch

Haven't had a chance to read the whole thread but I'd very much like to see them invest a 2nd in a long term center rather than trying to plug in retreads and castoffs like they have been doing for the last hundred years.

Of all the LT's in this draft, if he is healthy, the LT out of Ohio State probably would be the first one off the board (over Campbell from LSU and Banks from Texas)

I still think way too many "scouts" obsess over this arm length issue. I mean look at Rashawn Slater, LT for the Chargers. 4 years age everyone said "Really athletic but will need to move inside due to length concerns" yet here he is, one of the best LT's in football. Infact, did so well they were forced to move Joe Alt to RT and he was supposed to be the best LT in the draft last year...

1 inch, give or take, on the arm length is the dumbest reason not to draft a good linemen
wouldn't surprise me if Alt and Slater switch spots next year
