I think for some people, mostly the folks who grew up watching the 1st trilogy... it will never live up to expectations.

They will always want these movies to generate the same awe that A New Hope provided and it just won't.

I always liked the original 3 movies, but they did not define a whole genre for me.... they were not at that level for me, so I never put the bar at the unreachable level that older nerds did.

Also.... there are many movie/show cynics out there.... everything is meh or sucks..... they can't enjoy a movie because that would be way too mainstream for them.

Very true. I'm not expecting this to be as good as the original. But I'm still excited as all shit to see characters I love in a new story.

As a kid, I remember waiting in a huge line for Return of the Jedi. I was so excited... then some asshole who just finished watching the movie comes up to everyone in line and yells out, "DARTH VADER IS LUKE'S FATHER!!!! AND HE DIES!!!!!" Everyone was soooo pissed at that guy, and he just starts laughing. Seriously, why do some people go out of their way to be an asshole?

Apparently the true faithful weren't there because that man would have received the beat down of his life.

Loved me some star wars and empire... return of the jedi was meh IMO, and the prequels were to "young" for me.
Hoping this one is a little better.

How many weeks do you think I'll have to wait before I can stroll to the theater and not wait in line for this movie?

Also, have you guys heard about the theory that Jar Jar Binks is really a Sith Lord Master, i.e., the most powerful evil force in the universe? It sounds crazy, but this guy actually makes a pretty good case for it.

I heard that one, and it is interesting- I have 2 more that I absolutely love as well-
E.T. Is a sith lord stuck on earth- He "recognizes" Yoda, he levitates a group of kids, can heal with a touch, initiates a mind link between him and elliot, and can defeat death- So far as anyone knows that is a sith only power.
And of course, E.T.s were in the senate scene in the prequel.
Looking at E.T. in that light... Elliot is duped in to harboring and helping a Sith Lord bent on galaxy wide domination... Et becomes pretty awesome.

The one I really like is every movie after "Empire" is Han Solo's dreams while he is stuck in carbonite....
Personally, I think the dream sequence begins at the end of Empire- the moment they show Lando flying the falcon.... WEARING HAN SOLO'S CLOTHES.

In return of the jedi,, The buddy who betrayed him all of a sudden rescues him... and han shoots the monster grabbing his pal while blind.
Hiis love interest is all of a sudden the sister of his competition. (not to mention she dresses in a slinky space-bikini for a while)
He, a smuggler, Is put in charge of a military operation over a literal army of more qualified people.
The Bounty Hunter who hounded him was fed to a giant sand vagina.
He teams up with ewoks (mini chewbaccas) to stage the climatic battle...

Return of the jedi has a ton of nonsense that is easily explained by being a solo-centric dream.
It also explains the crazy prequels, the shiny ships and crazy story lines... it is a smugglers chaotic filling in of gaps in historical knowledge.

Additionally, Indiana jones is another dream sequence of Han solo- there is a long list of star wars easter eggs in the Indy movies.

C3po and R2D2 hieroglyphics in the temple,

A club called Obi-Wan,

the plane (skywalker) that saves him is named OB 3PO

And this guy- a bigwig for the Nazis, holding up his hand with a hot medallion(blaster?) scar....

images

....Perhaps he represents an uneasy rememberence of the last guy to hold out his hand like that to Han...

I fucking love the Han solo theory. Indy Is han solo's dreams, and the Star wars easter eggs are real memories mixed within the dream... the Real world making appearances.
