Unless Melo signs for a lot less than I think cap space is not the answer. I am not sure this scenario is all that likely.

If the Bulls are using cap space that probably means Dunleay or Gibson are gone, and I think it may take Gibson.

Oh the Bulls will amnesty Boozer....w/o blinking. JR should say he won't amnesty Boozer in case someone would actually trade for him....but the Bulls know they'll have to amnesty Boozer.

You do realize that if the Bulls amnesty Boozer and the cap does not go up they have ~9 million in cap space. With the projected cap increase it is closer to 14, and that is with the 4 million in garbage contracts gone and Randolph.

The Bulls may amnesty boozer but without a significant cap raise it won't mean much. They will also loose the MLE and the bi annual. So they in affect lose another 7 million in cap space.

I think that it is a pretty certain things that the cap is going to go up at least $5M.

My sentiments exactly. Not worried about the cap, but do have my doubts about Melo coming to Chicago.

Two weeks of fans screaming that Gar/Pax does nothing. Then after Melo signs with Houston or somewhere other than Chicago, Gar/Pax still don't pick anyone up. Meaning, the bumpy road continues.

Very interesting tidbit

The Rockets are letting it be known that they’ll be able to move Lin lickety-split if Anthony commits, but they might not ever get to that stage. “The only reason Carmelo will go to Houston to listen (to the Rockets) is because of Kevin McHale,” one source said. “If the coach wasn’t a top-50, all-time player or was a lesser-name coach, then Melo wouldn’t even visit there. But he’ll listen because it’s Kevin McHale.” New York Daily News
Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Free Agency, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin McHale

We got this, I think our only competition is NY. It's all about the money and I've said it before, if we can get close to the max we will get him. I think the magic number is 20mil a year.

More importantly, Asik is younger, plays good defense, and rebounds at a high level. He is a valued commodity, so he's easier to move.

Houston is a talent laden team, run by a FO who never has problems cycling players in and out of their roster when they want somebody.

The Bulls have been the exact opposite.

Carmelo's 1st choice is NY; it's his home and it's where he wants to be. If Phil offers him a max deal AND can sell his plan moving forward, Melo stays.

Melo doesn't strike me as someone driven to win a championship at any cost. He seems to care more about being happy with his life off the court than on it.
