yes you did. hahn would be an ideal fit for the cubs.I got a chance to talk baseball with him 2 years ago for about 20 mins in the hotel lobby in AZ. Seems like a good guy, very very conservative in his personality.

As long as he brings in players that can get the job done at a reasonable price. I don't want to see the Cubs get roped into another Soriano contract.

I hope that the next president they hire will be knowledgeable about baseball, something Crane Kenny has never been and never will be.

That is all a fan can ask for. Never how much you spend but how you spend it

It has come out that Hendry is not the one who did Soriano contract, it was the tribune companay, and again Soriano deal wasnt that bad when he signed it. Everyone thought the last 3 years could hurt a bit but he was coming off 5 straight years of 30-30 and just off 40-40. He deserved that money and its just cubs luck or stupidity that he hurt his legs right away and never been same. Putting him in CF was a HUGE mistake.

Not to hijack a thread, because apparently we can't go out of the boundaries of the topic of it, but why was Felix Pie such a bad option in CF?

Maybe I'm a sucker for guys with speed, but Soriano wasn't a leadoff man after he hurt his leg in 07. I know that's what he was signed as, but he could have been a 2 or 5 hitter.

The more important piece to get rid of Crane. He needs to go and McDonough (sp?) needs to come back from the Blackhawks.

As far as GM I don't really care much who we get as long as they are more numbers based as apposed to scouting based.

Because he is a career 300 OBP guy, and honestly doesn't steal much (19 SB's in his career)

Think of Pie as Corey Patterson - lite. Thats how bad Felix Pie is.

I guess my next question would be since Soriano was the leadoff man when signed, how many times did Pie lead off a game? I'm going to guess and say it wasn't many. I think the Cubs screwed up Pie, and screw up some of their prospects from becoming productive players.

The answer to your question is 4 games with the Cubs.

I think that if Pie he developed into an everyday player with Baltimore you might have a case, but rather I think it is another example of the Cubs reliance on scouting tools when evaluating prospects. Felix Pie had a lot of amazing abilities, but he never developed the power some projected early in his career. And like most Cubs that have come through the system he was allergic to walking.

:yep: the Cubs need overhaul in their system top to bottom. Especially emphasizing plate discipline.

It would definitely be nice to see more Brett Jackson's in the organization.

I think that it has improved somewhat in the last few years, and I really wouldn't mind holding onto Tim Wilken in his current role. I think with a GM that puts more focus on plate discipline that Wilken is more than capable of finding those guys. I just think we need to put in place managers and coaches at every level that preach waiting for your pitch and not just swinging at strikes like Dusty preached many years ago.
