I'd disagree with that plan from Patton.

But yes if we win who cares if a bad year or three are in there.

Yeah, an analogy between combat and winter meetings in San Diego may not be as apropos as I thought. I got all excited about the deals. That aside, Patton is correct in that you can never let an opponent relax or regroup on the battlefield. In San Diego, there's a giant buffet and open bar strategically placed to keep everyone calm.

From a Cub fan perspective! You look to be all in for 2015. 2 bullpen additions, one a monstrous contract, the other a bargain. Trading for a SP with his 2016 contract up in the air. The Tigers perhaps taking a step back, KC losing Shields and Butler, it seems a logical way to go. Good luck.

i guess you strike when you see weakness. i just want baseball for both teams to be relevant again. the city is taking over the winter meetings with our moves and lester and a bat possibly going to the cubs.

No reliever is worth that much.

I'll take it though.

I'm gonna laugh if you paid over $50 M for a RP

Regardless he is a great player, it's just a closer can only do so much to improve the team. Has a large RP contract ever worked out? Surprised the Sox would do this, but I'll wait for the details to really decide.

Reports are it is a 4 year deal

In today's game, it is a lot about relief pitching. Just taking a look at the play-off last year, almost all of the play-off teams had good to excellent relief staffs. The Sox have gotten two right now, a solid lefty and a solid righty. When you take a look at how many close games that they lost in the late innings, this season should turn that thing around.

over 20 blown saves. Saves could have put us over 80 wins easily. It means a lot to this team and how many losses we also got in the 8th and 7th inning with our bullpen.

Just not having to see that fat assed BELLYsario come in from the pen will add hours to my life:)

The difference in blown saves would have put us tied with the Royals for the Wild Card... Closers might not be worth 12M a year, but if Robertson can be the same guy he has been I think JR won't think twice about that signing.

Damn. Didn't realize the Sox pen was that awful last year. Having a bad pen has to be one of the most back breaking things in baseball. Astros were also big on Robertson and I guess they offered Miller a 4/$40 M as opposed to the 4/$36M he got from the Yankees

That other guy included in the deal could prove dividends also. He has had arm problems but if they were straightened out he could end up very good. So could Nate Jones when you think about it.Both have got electric stuff.

Highly paid closers almost never live up to their expectations. He was the best available, but no 73 win team should EVER throw that kind of money at someone just to get 3 or 6 outs. Not smart.

Jones isn't coming back till June and he wont be even half of what he was before. Maybe in 2 years
