Did anyone watch the first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand and am watching the prequel season Spartacus: Gods of the Arena?

If you haven't you should. Each episode is as intense as another shows season finale and the season finale to Blood and Sand was well epic. It is the only show besides The Walking Dead that I get depressed when the show is over because I have to wait until next week to watch again.

Yeah unfortunately the 2nd season of Spartacus has been postponed, the actor that played spartacus will not be returning because of cancer, I dont know if they got a replacement yet.

Also, i recently got into "Being Human" on sci fi. American remake of a british series about a werewolf and vampire roomates who also live with a ghost.

Yeah I know he got cancer but it was my understanding he was going to try and come back to the role. But that was the news I heard when it was first announced. I hope he can come back or at least they get a great replacement, that show is AWESOME.

I have Being Human on the DVR but haven't tried to watch it yet.

I decided to check out the first episode on demand sunday, and got so into ito it I caught up on the series (think theres only 5 or 6 episdoes so far. I started DVRing and watching the british version on BBC also and watched a couple episodes of that tonight.

They are very similar, they follow the seemingly same overall story arch with different details.

I like it alot, If you liked Buffy or Angel, I can see getting into this. Its got everything, funny campy parts as well as very serious parts. I like the American version better, but it might be just because its easier to relate to it.

No Andy Whitfield will not be returning period and offered his blessing to starz getting a replacement. They are going to move forward with the series, but are selecting a new lead.

Although I let it slide, the only thing that annoyed me about season 1 was the lack of period armor for roman soldiers. The Roman Army directly after the Marian reforms wore lorica hamata (chain mail, like in the Rome series on hbo) yet the legionairies under Glaber wore Lorica Segmentata (the steel strips of metal laced together, people commonly think about roman soldiers wearing) It wasnt even invented at the time of the series, it didnt appear until the first century AD.

I could see where that would annoy you, you seem to be a big Roman Empire buff so yeah i could see that, me couldn't care less but i certainly understand.

Also season 2 of Justified started last week, if you aren't already watching it, I highly recommend it.

I watched both Buffy and Angel so this may be up my alley. Thank you for the recommendation, Sir... be nice if Netflix streaming got either one of the version soon.

You know, I only caught about half of last season and the first ep of Season 2 last week, but it really is a good fucking show. Timothy Olyphant plays a pretty cool badass.

Yeah he plays the character perfectly. The writers are awesome for the show as well because his lines are pretty damn good. Just a great show overall

I never watched it first run but caught the first 6 episodes of "Deadwood" on HBO and now that is in my DVD Queue. Timothy Olyphant plays the lead in that as well.

He actually plays alot of badass characters, in perfect getaway and the crazies.

Blood and Sand was good it did a good job portraying how gladiators operated in Rome. But Rome had so many of the little details of Roman life down it cannot be matched. I wish one show would get the thumbs up thumbs down thing right. When gladiators fought thumbs up meant death the thumb was jammed up into the ribs. Thumbs down meant drop your sword let him live. No show has portrayed it right.

On side note that should be in the movie thread I saw the Eagle it was pretty good. Nice examination of the Gaelic tribes of 2nd century Scotland and the Roman presence in Brittan.

I havent seen the eagle yet, but I recommend "The Centurion" if you havent seen it. Currently an instant play offering on netflix. Its a recent British film that tackles the exact same subject matter, the disappearance of the 9th legion in britain. Dont let it being a british film deter you, good acting, good story and great production quality. It can almost be considered a prequel to the eagle, as the eagle tackles "after" the 9th legion disappeared, the centurion features the 9th legions obliteration. (That first still of legionaries on my post is from the centurion). Basically it is about a Roman centurion and a band of other legionaries who escape the slaughter of the 9th legion, attempting to get back to Roman territory while being tracked by pict warriors.

I'll check it out. The Eagle is good because it features a lot of gaelic speaking. Being Irish I appreciate stuff. It is Irish gaelic in the movie because Scottish gaelic has been partly lost over the years.

Interesting. Looks good, and I watch enough english stuff that I recognize a good chunk of the cast, especially my boy from Dr. Who. And who doesn't like Dominic West. Score one for The Wire. If you hadn't of said it, I wouldn't have thought it was British.

EXCELLENT SHOW. The more I watch the more it becomes a favorite. The cast is very solid. Course I'm a fan of "Home Movies" as well, but man did that take forever to get into. Dr. Katz not as much, and Bob's Burgers I fell is already over. H. Jon Benjamin does so much voice work that is good that it's amazing you don't even notice. ATHF is some of his best.

I have to admit I was already annoyed with Bob's Burgers after the first episode. I think it sucks.

I've only caught a few episodes and I've enjoyed it... I just think it would work better on cable. In Adult Swim or on Comedy Central...

I'm goign to have to agree with this. And it soon will be I"m sure. I've not liked it much but I have to admit that I've only been able to catch parts of a few episodes so it's not the best sample, and much like Home Movies, I didn't like that at first either, but it being the only thing on at 2am made me watch it and I started to enjoy the little inside humor. Maybe Bob's will rebound. I just can't convince myself that it's worth forcing myself to watch because I haven't heard anyone that is blow away by it.

caught up with the first 2 seasons thus far of the british version of "Being Human" up to the season 3 premiere.

I wish I didn't, because now I will probably be over critical of the American version. British version was a little rougher to get into, but I really started to enjoy it alot and liked the characters.

There are some differences in the lore too between the shows, despite the American version appearing to follow the story of the british version pretty closely.

Aiden the American version of Mitchell from the british show. Is older (alive since at least the late 1700's), seems to have less of a "dark side" or at least isnt as open to giving into it as his british counterpart. Vampires in the british version seem to be able to quit drinking blood cold turkey, with no ill effects other than craving and can eat regular food and get enjoyment out of it. In the American version Vampires dont eat human food at all, and even Aiden survives on "hospital blood". Also in the british version vampires dont cast reflections, in the american version they do.

Josh the American version of George from the British show, is still kind of a whiny ***** like George, but is less of a dork. Although as the British series moved on George became a little more badass. As far as werewolves go in the American version werewolves appear to get superhuman abilities even in their human form the closer it is to a full moon in a given month, in both they have a superhuman sense of smell all the time(in one episode of the american version, the night before a full moon, josh and another werewolf go out and kick the shit out of a bunch of vampires). Other than that they are pretty similar we havent learned enough about them in the American version to catch any other differences. In the british version werewolves are pretty vulnerable, they can die of old age, they dont appear to heal quickly or anything, and nothing special is required to kill one.

Sally the American version of Annie the ghost in the British version, seem very similar personality-wise, but as far as the nature of their being even from the series outset seem very different. Annie from the first episode is able to manipulate the world around her with ease and leave her house, Sally is merely just learning to do such things.

I like both shows quite a bit. Thus far the American version has done a good job damn near following the British storyline to a tee while the details of the story being different. I am looking forward to seeing if that trend continues or if they will completely branch off into an independent storyline.

I've been getting caught up on The Larry Sanders Show recently due to it being available for streaming on Netflix. I'm kicking myself for not catching this show in it's original run, it's hilarious (in a very dry way)... not only is Garry Shandling a comedic genius but Rip Torn and Jeffrey Tambor play perfect foils as well.
