Extra $2.5M in revenue over the $0 we got from our jerseys last year though, so that's good.

in fact, as it turns out, the initial figures were wrong, and it should be almost 2.5 mil/season

In the MLS world, $2.5 million is a big fucking deal. I'd much rather see FIRE on the front of the jerseys than anti-diahbeehtus oats, but... I'll take the hit if that results in us being able to buy someone to help us get some hardware and butts in the seats.

What are you basing this on? Your vast experience with MLS? Look, as Tony said, in MLS terms, this is a solid partnership that could be valued at more than just the money that is being given on a per annum basis, but for starters, 2.5 million is pretty darn ok money for where this league is at.

yeah, we'd all love to see no logos on the kits, but sponsorship and logos are a part of the game as we know it.

AE does have a point:
Los Angeles - Herbalife - 4M
Seattle - Xbox - 4M
Toronto - Bank of Montreal - 4M
Vancouver - Bell Canada - 4M
D.C. - Volkswagen - 3.1M
Philadelphia - Bimbo - 3M
Houston - Greenstar Recycling - 2.54M
Chicago - Quaker - 2.5M
San Jose - Amway Global - 2M
Salt Lake - XanGo - 1M

Chivas USA - Corona - Undisclosed
Montreal - Bank of Montreal - Undisclosed
New England - UnitedHealthCare - Undisclosed
Portland - Alaska Airlines - Undisclosed

New York - Red Bull - N/A

Colorado - None
Columbus - None
Dallas - None
Kansas City - None

So it isn't the best, but we are better off than a few other teams anyway.

Ok, look at what LA/NY/SEA have to offer in terms of return on investment for a sponsor---hell, throw Tdot and Van in there too, since although the play doesn't match the attendance, they do have stronger attendance--which means more eyes and jersey sales.

What does Chicago offer? A constantly vascilating attendance record and no real 'world name' players in a scenic suburb of Chicago in (essentially), the other teams making more are in markets that have 'shown' more on the field (Philly) or have a new stadium (Houston) --or minimally can claim to be the 'winningist franchise' in league history thus far (DC).

Our sponsorship is better than no sponsorship or pyramid schemes (Xango and Amway). At least it is with a reputable company with local ties and jobs and interest. I think it is a great fit and one that can grow over time. the entry point of 2.5/year is a good start based on many of the above factors and some others (that are not public knowledge).

Ya I know we wouldn't have gotten better, just stating there is a legitimate point he is presenting.

it's not a valid point to simply say "I'd have held out for more" when CLEARLY there is nothing that we have (at present) which would indicate we could have gotten more. It's just flawed logic from someone who is nowhere near the situation nor apparent comprehension of how it works in the domestic league.

And that's fine. He's entitled to his opinion. I'm just here to clear up why that is not even remotely possible in the reality we have.

on that note--I will be going (with a few others) to meet with the Quaker brass before the jersey is unveiled to the public tomorrow at 2:45 to gladhand and see what kind of ties Section 8 Chicago can have with Quaker. I know I feel the company is a good fit with the Fire and they have programs that will couple well with our mission and charitable efforts as well as the Fire Foundation's.....

I'm looking forward to 2012 on and off the field.
