I'm pretty sure that being overrated is being overrated. I could be wrong, though. No one is saying they are a great team, Jntg. What's to say they won't play 53 games vs. over .500 teams again? The NL Central isn't exactly looking like it'll be a powerhouse. Plus, they have really really really good young pitching. They will be pretty good.

I'm not as high on their rotation as others are...
Volquez: 3.87 xFIP
Arroyo: 4.60 xFIP
Cueto: 4.26 xFIP
Bailey: 3.91 xFIP
Wood: 4.17 xFIP

That was their projected rotation I found for this year and last year's xFIP's. It isn't really anything special IMO. Unless you meant Chapman in the pen...

xFIP is used for taking a small sample size and translating it over the course of a season, IIRC.

Volquez: 4.00 FIP
Arroyo: 4.61 FIP
Cueto: 3.97 FIP
Bailey: 3.74 FIP
Wood: 3.42 FIP

Plus, they *should* get Bailey, Wood, and Volquez for full season. So yeah, they are lookin' pretty good.

reds are only getting better jntg

I'm not impressed by them. But I don't see a need to go on further.

The Cubs were only getting better when they signed Milton Bradley... they were projected at 103 wins, ended up with 83.

I'm just not impressed or convinced.

What does Milton Bradley have to do with the Reds? That's just a dumbass remark.

You don't have to be convinced. Their NL Central Title speaks for itself. You are just so naive. Open your damn eyes.

Dumbass remark? No, just saying that the Cubs were supposed to only be getting better after 08 according to most projections, and it didn't happen.

I have opened my eyes. I see a team with a good-but-not-great pitching staff that can't beat good teams. NL Central Title means nothing, the division was pretty damn weak last year.

Again, we have to wait and see. I mean, it isn't rare for young teams to fall apart.

But that's just it... the Cubs weren't supposed to be getting better. We were built to win in 2008, plain and simple.

So you are saying they can't beat good teams based off of 53 games last year. That makes a whole fuckload of sense now, doesn't it?

Yet again, you use your cop out of "Wait and See." I shouldn't be surprised at this point. You are acting like this is a team full of rookies. They are young, experienced, and GOOD! You are so fucking blind

Blind? I thought watching or seeing the players didn't matter, only sabre did. :shifty:

Again, it is just my opinion. For all we know, they could be one of those fluke teams, it isn't rare. I think they are overrated, and that their pitching staff is merely average.

You know, you don't have to agree with me. This wasn't meant to start an argument, it was a simple comment.

You're right. This is a sports forum. It's no place for arguments. I realize it's an opinion. It's also a dumb one. You are basing this off of very flukey stats and frankly are coming off stupid. To say that a young, experienced, good team isn't going to get better is ridiculous.

has zero to do with this discussion. jesus jntg.

the reds are loaded with talent.

was i shocked at last year? kinda...i had em as a sleeper, but they exceeded what i thought they were going to do. but this is a team that you have to keep an eye on. they arent going to be going away anytime soon. im not saying that in 2012 the cubs cannot beat them, they are just going to be a challenge.

I didn't say they weren't going to get better. I said that you are saying they are guaranteed to get better, and I gave an example.

Cubs were supposed to improve after 08, most 09 projections I saw had them at 103 wins in response to what you said earlier.

And like you never have stupid-ass opinions.

Just a projection I made.

Hey, but I can get bitched at by you for pessimism at for not thinking we are good... but you ***** at me for optimism too?

That is an example. Here is another example. Fukudome after 07. What happened there? Oh yeah, we got better.

I don't give a shit what your projections said. That team was built for 2008, plain and simple. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

I at least back my opinions up with something of substance. The 2008 Cubs have absolutely nothing to do with the 2011 Reds. Back your opinion up with something that oh idk... matters and this is a different story.

I said I didn't think my opinion was worth discussing... can we just end this? I don't feel like looking up young teams that fell apart right now to prove that they have existed, because that's fairly obvious that it happens sometimes.

And I didn't say they wouldn't keep going. I just said that I expect a decline this year. Never said how big or anything.

And they weren't my projections, it was PECOTA, VL, Marcel, etc.

Who labeled the Reds a "great team". Who is overrating the Reds? I guess Jntg has to qualify what the Reds are being rated as in order to have us know any context of them being overrated?

Your opinion isn't worth discussing? You sure have high self esteem. But you are missing what I am saying. They aren't just young, they are also good and have experience. I don't know how many times I am going to have to say that, until you get it. Yes, teams have fallen apart before, but Cincy has a lot going for them.

That's bullshit that you never said how big or anything. That's pure bullshit. You said they would be .500, also stating that they sucked last year... which is more of your bullshitery.

Again, I don't give a shit whose projections they were. That's not the point. The point is that the team was built for 2008. Are you really not getting this?

I didn't say that they sucked last year. I said they weren't AS good as their record shows, since they couldn't beat .500 or higher teams.

I never said they WOULD suck, I said they COULD.

WTF? Self-esteem? If it was an opinion on something that mattered... then it would have been worth it. I meant over .500, I was trying to say that I wasn't saying that they wouldn't be under.

C'mon, just DROP IT.

You think Oakland is going to be "beastly" and beat out Texas, maybe that opinion is dumb too...

I don't see anyone beating out Milwaukee, so I thought "I'm going to be optimistic and lower Cincy a little.", since 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. don't really matter, I thought it wouldn't be a big deal. It was half-assed, which is why I've asked you to drop it...

I mean, I have to be optimistic or I'm a terrible fan, right CO?

You said that they would suck this year. So because they beat the teams they were supposed to, they weren't as good as their record? That's stupid. They won the games they were supposed to. They are obviously as good as their record shows.

You said that they do suck.

Yes, because Cincy sucks, STL lost Wainwright, and Milwaukee would lose Fielder in that scenario.

:shifty:

I was trying to say that I wasn't saying that they wouldn't be under.

Um... what?

You think Oakland is going to be "beastly" and beat out Texas, maybe that opinion is dumb too...

Maybe it is... but we can look at Oakland's team and see without much effort that they are going to be beastly. Hell you even put them as your story of the year or something like that. Great example.

That just gives me reason to not drop it. You could have just said this in the first place, though.

I mean, I have to be optimistic or I'm a terrible fan, right CO?

We are talking about the Reds. This is completely irrelevant.
