Stalberg isn't piss poor defensively, has a solid snap shot, and actually does have some hockey IQ. He doesn't have the best hands right now and he is mostly north/south (creativity) - those I agree with. I have no problem with a player getting the puck to the net, weak or solid, because getting the puck to the net creates opportunities. Driving the net like Stalberg does, which he is actually good at with his speed, creates a lot of opportunities because he either gets dragged down (penalty), gets lucky and buries won (goal), or creates havoc in front of the net (rebound/assist), or just creates an opportunity.

Honestly, he is a decent 3rd liner in the league and has started to accept his role on this team (hell, he got into a couple fights at the end of last year). I think the hate is because certain people expects him to be amazing because of his speed. His speed is one of his attributes and helps him cover up a lot of other flaws (several of the ones you point out aren't a big deal at all because of his speed), but his speed alone doesn't make him a top 6 forward (and that's why he isn't one).

Might as well just call him Skille then...

Except not at all. Skille isn't good defensively and seems to have very little hockey IQ. I've seen people describe him as a great athlete, but not a good hockey player. I agree like that, he seems to have all the tools to be solid but just can't do it - he obviously has the speed, size, is a solid forechecker, and a nice shot. Also, Skille never drives the net - his favorite play was to take a hard snap shot from the hashmark on the boards. An easy save for the goalie or a nice breakout for the other team. Because Skille isn't good defensively and doesn't have much hockey IQ out there, he isn't ideal for a bottom 6 role - where Stalberg can actually play in a bottom 6. Both guys aren't top 6 guys, they have the speed to be but don't have it all. Stalberg has more than Skille though, that's for sure.

Because Stalberg is a better player than Skille.

Both have size, speed, and a quick release on their snapshot - which projects them as top 6 forwards. Both aren't great passers, are mostly north/south, and overall definitely aren't top 6 forwards. The one thing I like in Skille over Stalberg is the forecheck. Skille is a solid forechecker. Stalberg has more hockey IQ and is better defensively than Skille.

Since both are not top 6 forwards (who knows maybe one day it will click and they will become one) you have to look for who is better for the bottom 6. Stalberg wins this hands down. In my bottom 6 I am going to take Stalberg everytime because of his better hockey IQ and he isn't a defensive liability. Stalberg is a lot more versatile and is better than Skille.

Skille is better on the Panthers. Stalberg is probably better elsewhere. That's just my opinion.

What ever happened to the guy that used to post here that LOVED Skille?

That guy was obnoxious.

I think part of my hate has to do with the fact that I wanted Kopitar instead of Skille. However I did want Staal to drop to us instead of Toews.

Toews/Skille or Kopitar/Staal. It would have been interesting to see where Staal could be today if he wasn't relegated to 3rd line duties for the most part - except for last year because of injuries to the Pens.
