I agree with you Rinkrat, All I see is mediocrity for many years to come.

‘Yup, and if rebuilt correctly by Stan’s replacement, no reason they can’t seriously compete again in say, 2022-2023.

Patience.

They can seriously compete now before this core gets 3 years older if they had a new coach.

I dont know if Crawford is the guy, I expect it was stans attempt as a safety net, and I know I am not getting paid millions of dollars to listen to JC, I am not hearing him now and I doubt these superstars have any time for him.

1st, hate to be a Richard Cranium here, but us getting annihilated by Nashville was 2017--we lost again in the 1st round to St. Louis in 2016. But to your point, I wouldn't have been upset if that was the case--Stan and Q out on their asses after that embarrassment.

But I think at the least that should have been their final warning. The following year--2018 should have been the de facto heave-ho for both of them. Losing Crawford should not have been an excuse--the team was shit when Crawford was carrying their carcasses, and it was shit afterwards. Both Stan and Q should have been on the clock that year to get something out of the skaters, and neither did. Even if the 'hawks weren't going to make the playoffs losing Crawford, they should have either gotten more out of the anemic skater core that season, or fully embraced the tank and started playing the kids more--hell, we were already losing so it's not like giving the youth more icetime would have made the result worse. They both failed that year. By not doing so it basically kicked the rebuild down a year in my estimation.

Stan is indirectly to blame for the 51-20 shot differential. JC is his coach. The failure of JC to get anything out of the core indirectly falls on Stan--He fired a 3-time cup-winning coach (irrespective of whether or not Q needed to go) and brought in a guy so green it makes Kermit jealous. It reflects on Bowman's ability to bring in a Coach who will win vs. a Yes-man.

When teams become successful guys want to get paid. It's the law of the land. Greed starts to kick in but that's human nature.

The cup run ended soon as Toews and Kanes 10.5 million cap hit triggered. The 2 hall of famers however great made their own bed. They had to have known the repercussions down the road. At the time they were both tied for #1 in salary in the NHL so that starts a ripple effect down the roster when 21 million is being invested into just 2 roster bodies.

How to turn it around? The next round of big name hype prospects coming up the system like Kirby Dach and Boqvist need to become "The Guy" sort of players the franchise can build around as opposed to just being "A Guy" like #2 overall pick Mitchy.

I don’t see it. A new HC can certainly have a positive impact but he’s not going to add the necessary size and speed. Our D is bottom-5 in the NHL, not going to get very far with this roster, regardless of coaching.

I'm not so sure. Look at how 19,88, 12, 2... are playing under JC's "system". I think he's lost the room and it's time for him to go.

We are not a dump and chase team, but yet that seems to be our system.

I'm not convinced the roster is that bad, with Kubalik/Nylander/Dach/Carpenter/Kampf adding more than we thought they would this year, its the 50 million dollar core struggling.
2020 looks good to me,

but it doesn't look like we are playing in a way that benefits us getting more quality chances than the other guy. We are working against our own atributes, and don't fit this style, whatever this style is Colloton better fix it fast or they better get a coach in who understands how to fight in spaces that work to the Hawks success.

We are set up for the back and forth machine wash but with the lost speed at the back the only netminder I've ever seen comfortable trading break away chances is Crawford. Our forwards also do not have a speed advantage anymore, so our chances don't end up as quality.

I have no idea what system we can run, my hockey mind isn't that advanced yet, but I do know we can't run this one without a new team. so trade everyone and start over or get a mature coach.
