I think some of the things Bowman said seems to have been missed.
Scott - after re-reading it - it seemed more like Bowman was saying he hoped Scott would develop into more of a one trick pony. Well, hoping still is free.
Centers- ok, so he wants one - who then goes? There are a couple of things that need to happen in that case. One of which is that some room needs to be freed up. Also in this case, there is one open slot at Center -but that is Johnson -which isn't going to free up anything for the most part. So in that case who goes? Well, who is marketable? To me it seems part of any package would have to Bolland or Hjallmarsson... I'm not sure Hjallmarsson would be that easy to sell (or as easy to sell as Bolland).
Campbell - well, you know the albatross there is the contract; and you can discuss all day long about his value as a player to the team, but I think that the larger issue is that you can't trade Campbell without getting a like contract back -so in effect, it ends up becoming a push if you can even make it happen imo. Also imo, what's the point, Campbell is a servicable defenseman. If you have to take a bad contract back, why not stick with a guy that is still playing at a high level in a position in which the team needs depth?
I don't think that Havlat was that good of a checker -so the old Havlat Bolland line as an example of a checking line -well, frankly it just wasn't so. It was just a secondary scoring line -and was not a checking line - it was the line that got to get out there and not be facing the other team's top choice of line to face the top line in that season. So -- what is a 4th line?
I suppose it can be an "energy line" whatever that exactly is ... sounds more like a line where guys run around and just hit guys ... which is nice, but is sort of redundant. If it were me, it would be a center that is pretty good at faceoffs, can control rebounds, as well as limit to opposition forwards mobility in the defensive zone - not necessarily going out there and running guys (running guys usually ends up getting you, the forward on the ice - out of position ... and ends up creating opposing scoring chances -- especially when you miss your "enegry hit attempt"). You know of any Ryan Johnson clones that play winger? A LW and a RW like that would be a nice addition.
See, the idea is to limit the other teams shots -sort of not exactly in synch with a puck movement defense style, but -well - if it were me, I would want one that can limit shots on goals consistently. Limit opposing scoring opportunities on a consistent basis... but then again- :/ that sorta sounds like the trap - I wonder if you can run a trap by lines -some do some don't - would that sorta end up like switching hands in a boxing match?
Oh well... I guess we'll see what happens.
