Olesz may be a good fit too. He's got good size at 6'2 220lbs. Leaving FLA - with lack of talent/expectations...maybe he'll get pushed to hit that second level of talent here. With the skill/depth on this club he's going to have to play at a high level, just to hit the ice. The Hawks have established leadership and coaches, where if he's lazy/not up to it...he won't see the ice.

Leino was let go in DET...and look how he fit in over in PHI

In DET - 55gms - 9g - 7a - 16pts - -5

In PHI - 94gms -21g -36a - 57pts -+16

Change of scenery can do wonders.

Bickell and Stalberg's game should be more consistant. That second year is important...same with Frolik having a full year here and having a new contract to play up to.

I think this years team is deeper and didn't lose much out of the core (only Campbell)...but greatly improved their bottom group.

Well this team is deeper, but not with guys who are gonna wow anyone IMO. Campbell, Campoli, Brouwer, Kopecky are all quality players that will serve their respective teams very well. In return we overloaded with Carcillo, Mayers, McClean, Montador, O'Donnell, Brunnette. That is my concern, none of those guys offer more than a one dimensional game. Carcillo could if he got his head out of his ass but he is now very much defined by his enforcer/agitator role. Mayers and McClean are also mainly just bruisers bottom line guys. O'Donnell is locker room signing to me, and I am really high on Montador although I have heard very mixed reviews.

All that said, the main point is I do not think we can count on Stalberg and Frolik to step into Kopecky and Brouwer's shoes. Brouwer couldn't do it last year and he showed much more than Stalberg or Frolik. Both #82 and #22 were responsible for many hits while still posting decent numbers, that will not be replaced by Frolik and Stalberg. Again I am hoping for the best but to me a team that wins championships has great D on every line, 1-4 on offense, 1-3 on D. Right now I see question marks. And really am wishing we grab a legitimate center come deadline, I do not like be thin there ever.

Team in general just has to remain healthy this season. That was the biggest issue last season in my opinion. Team never really had a chance to come together and find proper line chemistry etc etc. Healthy and well rested core should have a good trickle down effect on the rest of the lines.

I am not going to start predicting what sort of season this team will have. It doesn't look as good as it has on paper the last 2 years. But it certainly doesn't look like like a team that can not compete for and with the other teams in the Western Conference. There are a lot of new look teams in the West this season. Should be a tight conference as it always is. And our Division may be the most competitive out of the lot. It's going to make for one hell of a fun season.

There is a bit too much emphasis on Carcillo around here. And I understand why as he is a controversial player around the league and one fans and the media enjoy talking about. Let's just remember he is a 4th liner and is without a doubt better than any of the 4th line guys we had going last season.

The hits lost by Brouwer and Kopecky...will not only be picked up by Carcillo and Mayers..but on the blueline as well.

Montador and O'Donnell are both physical players.

Campoli is good...but not as good as he thinks he is. Lepisto is just as fast - if not quicker - and better in his own zone/defensively, and an excellent outlet passer.

Last years team's PK was pathetic. That improved with these additions as well.

I was as big of a Kopecky fan as anyone, same with Brouwer....but I think their offense (32 goals combined) will be more than covered by Brunette, Frolik...and even Olesz.

As far as centers...Hawks won the cup with Toews, Sharp, Bolland as 1-2-3. Kruger has put on weight and if Scottie and Co. speak high of him, I'm interested to see how he does. That'll put the STK line together at the beginning of last year - a definite improvement.

Campbell is the only big loss that worries me. Him 20+ minutes a game will be a loss - unless Leddy's game steps up and Keith returns....they won't miss him much.

Don't forget when we won the cup we also had a rock solid John Madden beefing up our middle. Campbells loss will be felt more than some are thinking. His loss changes the identity of what our D has been the past 3 years. That is fast breakout, filled with offensive puck movers where 1-5 contributed on the score sheet. We still will have that but I don't think it will be as much of a staple as it was the past few years. I hope Lepisto can match what I thought Campoli was going to give to use this year, he certainly is on a better team than he has ever been.

In all this year I feel the points will come heavily from #2, #7 and #8. With the other 3 doing the stay at home dad job. Still have a very solid D and I would put it up against anyones in the league, just gonna take some getting used to for me.

And the wildcard this team has...is the 3+mil in cap space. If either a forward or Dman is needed as the season goes on - they can afford a pretty darn good player/pick up.

**** Campbell. Glad to have that abortion of a contract off the books. Thanks for helping the Hawks win a cup, but, see ya! He's on the down slope of his career. Stan gets at minimum, a B+, just for unloading that contract this offseason. He did the impossible, and also added a lot of pieces to this team that they lacked last season. Bravo, I say. It isn't about next season, necessarily, but setting us up for the FUTURE.

Where the **** are you getting this "Frolik and Stalberg replaced Brouwer and Kopecky" shit from? Brunette replaces Kopecky in the top six, which is a GODSEND. Kopecky played a whole shitload of top six time last season, which BRUNETTE will replace. A legit top six player. Not a 3rd/4th liner pretending to be a top six player. Brouwer was all over the place and inconsistent. I don't think he will be missed.

Their kind of physical play isn't what this team needed anyway. The Hawks need the type of physical play that intimidates people, not the type that has the opposition going "ohhhhh, odd man rush!"

Meh at this post.

Meh at this post.

If your referring to me, I get this shit from every fucking person who has mentioned it in this forum. And Brunette replaces probably 7 extra goals from Kopecky, the guy does absolutely nothing else. Leave it to a true dumbfuck to get his shit worked up and start yelling over the internet at my post that had questions about this offseasons moves.

This thread was started cause this place was at a standstill, I've been on these boards and posting with these same people longer than you and its no wonder why we never see no new users here.

Haha. I'm not upset about your post at all. I just don't understand the concern over the roster at the present. This is something that would have a lot more merit come...the 30 game mark. Right now? Who knows.

The Campbell move hurts the Hawks, MAYBE, for 2011-2012, but after that, does nothing but help them. If you don't see that, well, not sure what to say.
