Unfortunately, this is just going to be another generic horror movie.

Cary Fukunaga, the man responsible for directing the brilliant first season of True Detective, recently announced he has dropped out of directing a new film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel, IT, claiming creative differences with the studio, New Line, were to blame for him abandoning his two-film adaptation. “I was trying to make an unconventional horror film … They didn’t want any characters. They wanted archetypes and scares,’’ he told Variety.

My main point of contention is Pennywise. Tim Curry being in his 40s in the original film added to the character. You had a grown man terrorizing kids. In this film IT only looks a few years older than the gang, not nearly the same effect. And Tim Curry's Pennywise looked completely aware of and in control of his evil (which made him more menacing), while the one in this trailer looks more like an unhinged being. The part at the end of the trailer where he gets up and runs like a 5 year old kid is very disheartening. Hopefully the film keeps that at a minimum.

I'm holding out that somehow they did a good job. My heart says, "Please let someone FINALLY do the book justice". My brain says, "This will just follow the same rules as other remake/reboots in modern day."

We would have to have some insight on Fukunaga's vision though, could have been great, could have been way too out there.

These movies have to make money, in a perfect world it doesn't matter but especially with horror movies, they have to fit a certain mold. Hopefully It can at least break that mold to a certain degree and set itself apart. I know it's just a trailer, but we kind of saw both here, typical jumpscares and some psych stuff. The switch from a photo album to a projector was a good move and the best part of the trailer.

Ever watch The Tommyknockers? I've heard it's the only made for TV King that is worth it(IT is still ok, just nowhere near as good as it could have been), but I never bothered.

Good, but Rose Red and The Shining remake were better IMO.

Salem's Lot wasn't too bad. Misery or the Shining best movie adaptations.

I thought The Mist was pretty good, too.

It was better than I thought it would be.

Forgot Stand by Me, and Apt Pupil is not bad. Some of his best movies are based off of novellas.

"New Line Cinema‘s IT trailer set a new record for views its first 24 hours! The IT trailer was viewed more than 197 million times globally with more than 81 million views and over 1.8 million shares on the US Facebook instance alone. At 36 hours, that figure stands at an astonishing 246 million views!

The 197 million views bests the previous 24-hour record holder, The Fate of the Furious, which recorded 139 million views in a single day."

That sounds like a fine motion picture. Oscar buzz.

Who said there is no more creativity in Hollywood. Re-make a 1990 television mini series.

If somehow IT hits on all cylinders, I hope it opens up for a proper Spawn movie. Those comics were fantastic, among the best of the comic comeback 90s era. IT the book and Spawn (the early comics, not the cornball movie) always felt like they were of the same inspirations.

Tim Curry's Pennywise was top notch. Interest to see if Skarsgard can fill those shoes.

Did you actually read The Running Man?

Yes to TRM, no to Christine or Stand By Me (although I'm keeping my eye out at 2nd hand shops for a good copy). After reading the Hunger Games (before the movie) I was like.. this book is awfully familiar. Looked up more on the Running Man, and that's when I learned about the whole Bachman thing. Found a copy at Goodwill and it was my shitter book for the next month. LOL I haven't read all of King (not even most of), but to anyone who gets intimidated by some of the larger novels, The Running Man is on the shorter side and the main character plays out so different when you drop the Arnold image of him.

Hopefully Satan isn't a muppet this time around...

Dear god, that movie was so bad. And the thing is, I like John Leguizamo NOW and some of his 80s work. But in the 90s, all he did was TRY too hard to be funny. Lots of misfires.

Have you seen 'Land of the Dead' with him?

First time in my life I almost committed seppuku over a DVD purchase.

Book scared the hell out of me when I read it. Took a lot of the fear out of seeing the movie though; I knew what was coming. This movie might change that, though. It's been a while.

Also, for those who've read it: still the most fucked-up scene you've ever encountered in a book, right? You know exactly which one I'm talking about.

Never read the book, but I know what you're talking about.
