Why is the surgery so bad - do they remove a part of the pancreas?

They remove part of your Stomach, Pancreas, Spleen, Large intestins.... It's a very extensive surgery. Most with Pancreatic Cancer also develop Liver Cancer at the point it spreads from the Pancreas.

While it's a bad surgery it allows the person to have extra time they would not have without it. The disease sucks ass.

Love you Tbird buddy.

Wow they really gut the person. So your friend T-bird had this done? He didn't recommend it? Just miserable afterwards it sounds like.

A friend's father was faced with the decision as to whether or not to undergo the Whipple and wondered what I knew about it, so I asked Tom if he would talk to him about the procedure and he agreed to that.

I don't know what was said in the discussion, but Mr. Watts decided against having it and passed away late last year.

It seems like more and more people are getting this type of cancer. Maybe that's just my perception though.

It does.

Becky's grew for 5-10 YEARS before she showed any symptoms, which is why the mortality rate is so high.

I'm proud to say that 100% of all private donations to Skate are given to PanCAN so that they can continue their work in fighting this disease.

It gave him over a year or more that he probably wouldn't have had so I guess there are pros and cons. I'm glad he had the proceedure done because it gave his loved ones that much more time with him. He was able to see his team win the Stanley Cup and the Banner hanging high in the UC in person.

It's 99% fatal I believe.

Long term survival rate is 3%.

Life expectancy was 6 months from diagnosis; we had 3 months with Becky.

Progress is being made-it's not uncommon to hear of people living with it for a year or more now.

And you're right, Ron. It's a very personal choice.

I'm sitting here in tears. I still really miss my friend. Just talking about him gets to me. He deserved much better than what life dealt him in the end as I'm sure Becky did as well. I have a respect for this subject that I never had before, and I guess an understanding as well. It's quite a shame until on is personally effected how it just out of sight out of mind it is.

I know exactly what you're saying and wish I was still in the dark, but that's not the path God chose for me.

So, I carry on, learning what I can about it,. and trying to defeat this shit.

Fucque cancer.
