Here's a very good blog for any investor. It's long, but well worth the read. This guys strategy is very passive, which was perfect for me. Best thing I took from it.

The market always goes up. The Great depression and the recession of 08 are so small and insignificant it's crazy. Don't be a pussy, invest your money in index funds and let it roll for 40 years. If your older, there are some good Index Bond funds too.

The issue is that a lot of people that didn't retire because their 401k's popped in 2008 are now retiring/retired. Most cannot handle a 50% downswing and stay retired.

The millennials are in a much different position than the boomers in terms of timeline. That makes a huge difference.
