I mean, it's almost an annual tradition in Chicago: thinking the backup QB can be "the guy" when there's no evidence or reasoning to think that other than a good preseason game or two. So let's not act like drafting a franchise QB at #1 is "fantasy land" compared to expecting a UDFA rookie to be our QB of the future. It's possible but entirely unlikely.
It is tradition, but I want it because we obviously aren't going anywhere this year so rather than just watch Fields suck and wonder about Bagent, you can make an informed decision on whether to draft a QB.

The trenches need to be fixed. Badly. It's been clear for years to everyone but the Bears, apparently.

But if we get the #1 pick and don't draft a QB, there will be riots.
You trade down with the #1
You trade down with the #2

You build an O-line, draft JJ at 7-10

You don’t stop trying just because of past failure. This is how you hire a Matt Eberflus; “Nagy was an offensive coach and he failed, gotta hire a defensive coach now”… NO!!!

QB is everything, generational talent is staring this stupid franchise right in the face, time to get it done.
This generational talent stuff is crap. They have a guy give him some decent coaching and help, spend the draft picks there,
it's a total waste to put another QB into this mess all around.

Wrong he doesn’t need “da bears” and George’s yes man to develop, he is ready to go.

Um....

I am always amazed by the caliber of Bears fan that actually thinks it's more logical to make the argument

" don't ever try to draft the next great franchise quarterback! Start the backup instead!"

:speechless:

Should someone give them a list of the number of times starting the backup worked? At least in terms of long-term franchise success?

I'll go 1st.

Tom Brady.

There. That's your list.

Odds suck either way but they suck a lot less trying to draft one....
Kurt Warner
Steve Young
Kurt Warner....Jim Plunkett...Joe Theisman.....Earl Morrall.....Roger Staubach.....Doug Williams....Jeff Hosteller....All won SBs.....these players earned their way to the starting QB on their rosters.........not to mention QBs who started on losing SB teams..... 7 QBs drafted No. 1 overall have won SBs....none of them in the list I made..there's more. So its more than just Brady........BTW...You can thank me later....

Since 1970, 25 quarterbacks have been drafted #1 overall. Of those 25, 15 have made multiple pro bowls (and that's not even counting guys like Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence who will likely end up being multiple prowlers, but haven't done it yet), and 7 have earned at least one regular season NFL MVP award or Super Bowl MVP award.

Drafting a QB #1 overall has historically been probably the most high-reward draft decision possible. You get a multiple pro bowler most of the time, and you get an MVP caliber player almost a third of the time.
Who cares about that? How about winning that game called the Super Bowl? The Pro Bowl...give me a f**kn' break. lol...

Most SBs were won by QBs NOT being the No. 1 overall pick ........

They've already ran the probability of hit rates with QBs by round. Guess what? The earlier drafted, the higher the hit rate. This may come as a surprise to some, but in most cases, the more talented QBs are taken sooner in the draft than later. There's a correlation probability linked between talent and success. Thus, statistically speaking, you're more likely to "hit" on a QB in earlier rounds than later. That's why people are pushing for drafting another QB early and not pining for an undrafted, DII QB (since he has a lower probability of success).

I think I'll trust NFL franchises more than Chicago Bears posters.

Overwhelming consensus is you go QB #1.

Weird Mandela Effect thing with John Fox, many people remember him being their coach that year but actually it was Gary Kubiak.
So Fox came in the next season when they lost to the Seahawks?

I could look this up. Not going to though.

I personally want Poles (or the next GM) to go all Ron Wolf on the QB spot until he gets a good one and still attack the position after he gets a good one.

One of these decades/centuries, all the stars will align and the Bears will have an NFL caliber QB. Not sure I will be alive to see it. I was not around during the Luckman years and I'll probably miss if/when CHI does get a real QB.
Remember when Pace said he was going to draft a QB every year?

I was so young back then.

yes I do.....that 'genius' inherited the worse D in the history of the NFL...well, certainly the worse in Bear history...but I'm pretty sure in NFL history. Under the 'compliant' coach, led the bears to back to back giving up 50 or more points in a game. That's right...our beloved bears under trestman is the ONLY D in nfl history to do that. But the 'genius' comes in and drafts a Mother F'n WR! I don't make this shit up...a WR when our D was the worse in NFL history.....right then I knew we remained in clown heaven.

Except the QB is a huge problem. He is not an NFL quarterback. He never has been an NFL.quarterback. he can't play from the pocket, can't read an NFL defense. A lot of you seem to be in denial about how bad Justin Fields is. He's every bit as bad as Zach Wilson. Maybe worse.

Get Caleb Williams. Don't be stupid. They will have two top 5 picks and a boat load of cap space. They are terrible, but they are in a position to turn it around because they have draft capital and money. They have to get a quarterback who can play in the NFL. Everything changes if that happens.

I'm totally down with taking mulligan on a QB( unless Williams). Lately I've been more of the opinion that it's not about where you pick, it's about who you pick (Although I'm not denying that picking higher does give you the best chance at a QB).

I'm cool with kicking the can down the road on a QB and building the team up for a couple seasons. Get a fucking all pro offensive line, before you slide a kid into that situation. Who knows we may get a talented vet to want to come here, or maybe Poles gets lucky and nails a QB pick on Day 2 or Day 3, or maybe Bagent has something. I know we're hungry for a good QB, but this bullshit we're putting out here ain't it. We can't force it even if we wanted too.

Of the Modern era, I will give Steve Young, Kurt Warner, and Tom Brady. I'm not looking for the Rich Gannon's of the world - I am looking for what would be considered a PERMANENT solution at the QB position of a team for a period of at LEAST a decade.

Fewer teams made certain things easier for repeat Super Bowl trips pre-modern era.

Even so, do you realize how small your list actually IS compared to Quarterbacks who have been DRAFTED and been successful?

And even that, admittedly is a small list - however it IS much larger than the "HUR DUR, START THE BACKUP" list.

I'm not talking about how 'successful' a QB is ..I'm talking about winning the SB! .......now,,,if you want to 'put down' SB winning QBs that's your choice...and please educate me on when the "modern era" started? And what significance does it have on ones feeling of accomplishment and self worth, that a player who won in the 1950's would not be able to understand? Or any other decade Let me understand your pov...so I QB comes to a franchise and brings the so called 'stability', a permanent solution (your words) which that is so bazaar of a statement. because there is NO permanent solution at a football position. But they make the playoffs for 12 years in a row and NEVER win a SB, is a better choice than bringing in a QB that wins a SB, maybe two and is only with the team 5 or 6 seasons? Is that what you're trying to convey? The 'permanent solution' guy of 12 years NEVER winning is the better choice? Did I understand you correctly? btw....the list of QBs I mentioned. They ALL were guys brought in and WON a SB or two. You can thank me later for educating you on the reality of the game of football. lol...

I just wish they had more than 1 draft pick so that it wasn't this either/or situation we're stuck in
