Hello to you all!

Just a progress report...thank you all for you continued thoughts and kind words!

After the report from the surgeon (he did say the oncologist has the final say), who said all was great and possibly no radiation would be needed…..Now we are a little confused. Dr Kash (oncologist) said they got everything and all is good, but there is something in her results which intrigues the pathologists enough to use her results as a case study and present them to the “Board” whichever Board that may be. Apparently some of the mass removed contains something which “could” be classified as an intracystic papillary carcinoma…but they are not at a stage where they will officially classify it as such..so it is still classified as DCIS and will be treated as such.

Susan will undergo radiation and we have an appointment with a radiologist Thursday at 2;00 pm. Dr. Kash also recommended she go on Tamoxifen after the radiation…Susan and I will discuss the pros and cons before deciding on this.

Dr Kash said there is a 3-5% chance of recurrence of cancer, given Susan’s diagnosis and treatment. With Tamoxifen, the percentage is cut about in half.

Will Dr. Kash let you know what the board concluded on Thursday?

Hi all....Been super busy since last update.

Steve & I went to Ireland for 12 days to visit Ashley just after she finished...graduated I should say, and had the time of our lives!

If anyone ever gets the chance to go....do not pass up the chance. Ireland and it's people are amazing.

Got to stay with the wonderful Niblock family for 4 days and they took the time to SHOW us Ireland.....and turned us on to WONDERFUL Irish Whiskey!
<

Got to dance with a much younger Irish lad! Stepped all over his toes.. LOL!

The smell of peat/turf burning on a damp cold evening is wonderful!

They MADE me kiss the Blarney Stone.

There was this lady that kept following us around, and had the habit of shutting down streets for miles around......but when she finally got close to us we saw she was The Queen!

When Obama was in Ireland he had 24 hour coverage on TV and Radio. The Irish LOVE him.

Was on the run nonstop, but still need to return as there was so much we still haven't seen.

Upon the return home on May 30th, had an appointment with the radiologist to set up treatments.

Started my first radiation on the 7th....piece of cake. Some concern that I might have an infection in my breast, but keeping a close eye on it. They don't think it could be a radiation burn showing this early.

I will have 7 weeks of radiation with the last 5 being boost treatments. Drugs will be addressed after radiation.

I am wiped out, fighting a on and off sore throat and jet lag that hit me hard. Working to get our garden in and landscape work done on weekends, at least 6 to 8 hours a day....yup that could do it.

Still don't think it has hit me that I have been diagnosed.

There was some confusion as one Dr. said i didn't have cancer and the oncologist said I did. The oncologist was right. When I was told I just thought.....OK just let's get moving and do what we have to do.

Staying positive. I have met many women that have the same type of cancer but has traveled to the lymph nodes and are doing chemo. I am lucky that mine was found early, the best type of cancer to have I am told. ( There is a best type to have? LOL.)

I had the choice of a mastectomy or lumpectomy with radiation. I like my boob and would like to keep it around for as long as I live....

I beg all of you to make sure every female you know gets her yearly mammogram.

I FELT NO MASS OR LUMP and EITHER DID ANY OF THE 4 OR 5 DRS. THAT EXAMINED ME!

Early detection is the key!

I like your boob too Stu. I like em both really.

Glad you had a good time out in Ireland. I am not Irish, but I want to make it out there. Looks like a beautiful place.

And you didn't have to travel to Ireland to sample some good stuff. And make sure you have the right one. Whiskey or Wiskey.

Let me know, and I will bring Ymono and myself and we will bring some fine whiskeys and wiskeys to sample.

I have been wondering how you were doing. Glad to see you are keeping your spirits up. I have never been to Ireland, but from pictures I have seen, it is truly beautiful. Laughing and sharing with family and friends can be the best medicine of all.

While I am a dude, I hang out with three really cool (and much older than me (no I am not a cougar chaser)), chicks that are breast cancer survivors. All stayed positive throughout the ordeal, and like you had no lumps but the cancer was detected by the cold brest smasher (their name, not mine). While two of them ended up with one tattooed nipple (and plenty of jokes ensure years afterwards from them) , they are still very much positive about it and very glad they got checked.

Stu, I am a firm believer that getting it detected early and staying positive will yield the best results for you! Not just because of the three cool chicks, but the wealth of survirors they have gotten to known over the years that I have met. Plenty of years ahead for you young lady!

But this type of stuff is not just for the laydees. While male brest cancer is rare, testicular cancer is not. Best for the boys to have the boys checked out....and don't worry the finger only sucks the first time it penetrates. Just make sure the doc does not leave his wedding band in there...it is a ***** to poop out.

edit - and yes Ireland is a wonderful place. Always worth visiting multiple times.

I think you mean whiskey and whisky... btw - great bar bet for you guys. Bet someone that they can't spell "Scotch Whisky"

Thanks for the update!

OOOOH! THE Hanover Park?!?!? Lucky!

Stu - glad to see you're in such good spirits! Definitely let us know if you two need anything (even if it's just a beer or some Jameson's).

Most awesome!

Not only for your positive outlook and outcome but the trip to Ireland to boot!

I am looking forward to Stu Jr. in her new position with the Rockford IceHogs this summer as well.

I am hopeful that means more of Stu Sr.s in town as well.

PICTURES! Did you bring Hawks gear to wear in Ireland?
