  1. Chicago Bears
& Ted Philips had no say in hiring John Fox. I don't believe it.

And this report downplaying Phillips’ role just happens to come after the initial contrary report and through a local radio guy friendly with the team.

Could be true, but it’s at least reasonable to wonder if the embarrassed Bears didn’t just purposely leak this counter-report to change the initial narrative.

On @670TheScore @ZachZaidman is wondering if the changes for the #Bears stop at the head coaching job, or if the changes go even higher.

Zaidman is usually pretty conservative.

Bear fans are underestimating the emotionality of the Kingster. He doesn't know how to win, but wants to badly. His pride is insulted, and Ryan "Snails" Pace is the architect of the insult. It is entirely possible that the Pacester's seat is combustible . . . 14-and-33'll do that . . .

My question is this: What kind of dirt must Ted Phillips have on the McCaskeys to still have a career? He must know something really good like where some bodies are buried, or how much money has been laundered or something so intense that his seat is impossibly cool at this point in his career.

The tinfoil hat in me says, he’s done the dirty work for years. They say get something does, and he finds a way to do it, no questions asked. Wouldn’t surprise me if down the road we find out about widespread fraud, fudged numbers, unpaid taxes, specious bookkeeping, etc. “We didn’t want THIS,” they say. “Ah, you were the ones who told me to,” he replies.

I would not consider Dan Bernstein friendly with the team. And as much as he's an asshole who everyone on here hates, he has been right far more often when referring to Bears sources than he has been wrong.

I guess that is true, you have to keep the fall guy around until the fall happens.

“Here’s what the guys in the front office really think about Pace/Fox/Alshon/etc.” is one of his main schticks. It’s clear the Bears sometimes use him to push info out. Doesn’t mean he’s always wrong or that he’s an idiot, but it does mean you should think about these things three-dimensionally.

I really hope this is true. It would be the first step in the right direction for this team in decades...letting football people run stuff.

The Sweatster has done the dirty work that has made the team millions for years. The miserly McCaskeys are grateful above all for that.

When the team was being run into the ground by effete Michael in the '90s, the Sweatster saved their a-fifty-fives by stepping in on the Soldier Field negotiations with Mayor Daley after he cut off communiques with Michael and getting the deal done. For bailing out her ne'er-do-well, polo-playing offspring, Ginny has embraced him like a smaller, swarthier son.

The McCaskeys are an oddly loyal lot - they turned their back on the names who built their modern day franchise (Ditka, Payton, and pretty much everyone who played or coached on the dominant teams of the 80s and 90s) and closed ranks to eradicate them from Bears lore in order to promote the family as the true Bear standard bearers. Whoever helped them with that endeavor was allowed in, and no one's done more of their bidding than the Sweatster.

He'll do whatever he wants for as long as he wants and no one will ever touch him.

You posted this drivel in more than one thread?

You should correct your misspellings before you copy and "Oaste".

I don't think your theory qualifies as tinfoil hat al all. In the business world, the CFO is the one guy who knows where all the skeletons are buried. When a fraudster like Enron's Ken Lay is indicted, there's always a CFO like Andrew Fastow who ratted out and brought him down. Let's be clear that we're not suggesting the Bears books are cooked, but the fact that the sweatster know where every dollar has been spent spanning 30 years probably provides him with enormous job security.

I would cry no tears if Ted was gone. But he was removed from the GM and coach search last time around, wasn't he?

If so, why would more poor results on the field have any effect on his job?

Fans want him to stay out of football operations, but then when he does, they still want him to take blame for the on the field stuff.
