I'm likely on the "younger" side around here too. About a couple years ago my dentist told me that I might be grinding my teeth. Like "wtf you gotta be kidding me."

I never woke up with a sore jaw before and didn't feel stressed out at the time. He said you could also be grinding your teeth when you eat or just sitting around and not paying attention to anything.

Maybe it was just the thought he put in my head but the next morning I felt my jaw was kinda sore?

Then later in the day I noticed while I was reading a book that my teeth were kinda going into that grinding motion. So I just kept my tongue in between my teeth to cancel that action.

I'm a big coffee drinker too and read that could be a cause and decided to cut it out for a few weeks. They also say that exercise can help so I also started exercising religiously again.

Perhaps it was mostly psychological but I started to feel great after a week or two. It was probably the exercise. Nevertheless, every dentist appointment I've had after that has been fine.

Interesting. I drink a lot of coffee.

I'd rather live with jaw pain then give up coffee.

I have had TMJ since I was 16. I've worn numerous guards at night because I grind and clench something fierce. It's just something I've learned to live with. I ended up cutting out alcohol and caffeine completely. You do crazy shit like that when you start to get older (I'm in my 30s, but still...) and no longer want to wake up feeling like shit.
