Quotes from Q during an interview with The Score this morning, per Jay Zawaski on Twitter:

He's really progressed. Reports are excellent on his development.

When their season's over, he's going to come down...come back here. our people believe that he can help us.

So we look forward to getting that opportunity. Will there be time in the regular season to get a look at him or will we have to wait to see in the playoffs. We look forward to having a chance & at what point that remains to be seen.

Also, reading further into Zawaski's tweets, this could be the reason why Rundblad was acquired. Send Brookbank down to the minors to clear cap space for Teuvo to play this year. Brookbank's cap hit is about $500k more than Rundblad's.

Kruger did it, Saad did, don't see why they wouldn't expect TT too give it a shot.

And this is why Kesler wasnt an option.

Sharp/TT/Kane. Good lord. Saad/ Tazer/ Hoss, Bickell/Shaw/Steeg, Zues/ Kruger/Smith

Yeah, good fucking luck in the playoffs West.

In hindsight, the Pirri and Rundblad trades make a lot more sense, in terms of what the Hawks had planned.

A portion of Brookbank's contract would still count against the Blackhawks cap if he is sent down. There is no salary cap to worry about once playoffs hit, but if TT comes over in the regular season they would have to worry about that.

It should be exciting if he does in fact come over. Have to believe they will give him a shot at 2C and then see where he fits long term.

I imagine they'll flank Teuvo with some defensive help, but he's got to be in the 2C role, right?

20-19-88
10-Teuvo-81

That's a deadly Top 6.

Does a player have to play a certain amount of games to be playoff eligibile? Or am I thinking of another sport?

They don't have to play a certain amount of games to be playoff eligible. They do have to be signed by a certain time to play in the playoffs (happened about every year when Forsberg tried to come back) but TT is already under contract.

The only contract ramifications involving Teuvo joining the team this year deal with this entry-level contract, which are 2-way deals for 3 seasons that typically are incredibly cheap ... less than $1 million/year. If he plays 10 (I think) regular season games, that counts as one year of his ELC. I believe there's a smaller number of playoff games that would count as a year of his ELC as well.

Basically, it means that the Hawks may owe more money to Teuvo a year sooner. They'll still control his rights for awhile as he'll be an RFA.

If he fills that 2C role, however, it's worth every penny IMO.

I agree. It's been a noticeable trouble spot all year with everyone but an Ice Crew girl getting a shot. It doesn't appear that there's another guy on this roster that can step up like Handzus did last year....let's hope this kid is the goods.

Will he wear Number 99 after the great Gretzky? :hawkstroll: Or number 69 after the great Doug Glatt?

Just let Joe be.

And don't forget he was frequently hyping Pirri as a deserving full time guy

There is nothing wrong with being excited about Pirri. I receive the point about tempering expectations, but the other side of the coin is why not get excited?

Its not everyday a 1st place team also has the minor league player of the year. Pirri showed some flashes of great passing and puck handling, but suffered the same undersized under athletic flaws of many of our draft picks. That wasn't what killed him, it was his defensive recognition. You can hear Q talking about Pirri even when he talks about Tuevo and raves about his defensive recognition. The player to coach relationship got broken with the disgruntled Hogs going up and down I think. Everyone on the Hogs probably thinks they are better than they are and act like the only reason they can't get up is because the Hawks are too deep.

We are in great shape but have flaws like any franchise, and Tuevo is the next hope to fix 1 or 2 of those flaws. We are an elite team and their are only a few so that is huge.

I don't see why I shouldn't be excited about Tuevo? What is the harm? I know he could be no better than Pirri. He is 19 and undersized a bit, and the jump in competition could smother him. I know that. I also know that at 19, or 20, or 21 the upside and impact he can really make is probably minimal.

Expecting a 2C out of a 20 year old even next year I think is a little bit crazy talk, but that doesn't mean I am still not anticipating watching it play out and excited about it. Its very very interesting for a team of our caliber to even suspect "phenom".

I know you probably hate that word. I guess its overzealous. I just think who cares? Whats the worst that happens? A fan gets over excited? oh god no.

Its not my job to temper expectations, thats Q's job. And the veterans. And management. After that we should get as excited as we damn well want to, its my disappointment after all, not anybody else's. Only hurting myself? right?
