To those that love to bring up the Soupy 7.14m caphit, would you complain about as much if he had a 5.5m caphit and Keith had the 7.14 caphit?

The argument is simply about value. I fully understand what BC brings to the team. Keith (ie "Keith Norris") gave us way more ice time, far superior defence, AND more points last year than Soupy 7. I bet he'll do the same this year. Since the caphits are not interchangeable there's no point to argue your hypothetical cuz it's not reality. I respect what you're getting at, but BC is way over-priced on this roster for what we need to accomplish. When he signed the contract the Hawks weren't Cup-contenders and needed a spark to get fan interest with much less concern for cap management. Now expectations have risen and you need to squeeze the most out of the cap situations to maximize talent on the roster. His $7.14M now becomes a critical liability when originally it was a mere luxury. And for the last time, yes he's talented, but the pricetag is too damn high with too many areas for improvement needed on the team.

It's all about the Indianhead, not the redhead!

So what happened with Bolland? I was half ass watching the game last night when it was 4-2 or whatever... I must have missed his injury.

We're getting our first taste of what it's like to have your stars go down in the cap era. The reason it hurts so bad now is, obviously, that we don't have a half-dozen severely underpaid players on the team anymore to compensate. Campbell and Hossa make up roughly 22 percent of the available cap space this season. When they go down at the same time, there's really not a lot you can do. If Backstrom and Green go down for a few weeks, do the Caps have ready-made replacements in the minors? If Datsyuk and Rafalski go down, do Detroit? If Marleau and Boyle go down, do the Sharks? The answer is "of course not". No team without a bunch of guys on rookie salaries does.

Campbell will make a huge difference when he returns, just like he did in last season's playoffs. If you didn't notice it then, you won't notice it now, but that'll say more about you than it does about Campbell. The Hawks have scored 21 goals and allowed 26 five-on-five this season. Watch that deficit start to get erased as he gets back on the ice.

And hopefully getting Campbell back....means they get Hjarlmarsson back, and the Keith/Seabrook tandem minutes go down and get them back, and then Boynton/Cullimore/Hendry minutes go back to 5/6 Dman roles.

It wasn't a one time thing. I heard he missed a few team practices because his back (or whatever it is) wasn't 100%.
