The reason for the celebration of Christmas, which is often overshadowed by the gifts, is far better than Thanksgiving.

Christmas >>>>> T'Giving. Not for gifts (though my 4 year old niece, my parents only grandbaby, is the star of the show), but for the family, the food, the Reason for the season, and Ham >>>>> Turkey.

We have Ham and Turkey on Thanksgiving. :D

But on Christmas, it's more of a pot luck. The food is clearly better. Thanksgiving, just two or 3 people make all of the food in my family. On Christmas, everyone makes their favorite dishes. Nothing is ever pre-packaged, and all of it, including the deserts(serious deserts, not the super-simple filling-type mixed with crumbs in a pyrex pan, although that is good too), the drinks(even homebrewed beer, soda, and wine/spirits) are there. I make the croquettes, gumbo, potato pancakes, and english style toffee, which all take me 3 days to complete, and I know most of my family members spend more time on some of their dishes and deserts.

Without the food, half of the family wouldn't even come LOL! So yeah, I can see that as a big reason for Xmas being far and away better than Thanksgiving.

20 years ago when I was single - Christmas > Thanksgiving
Now that I'm married and have kids - Thanksgiving > Christmas

Christmas is dragging two overstimulated/overtired kids to four different places... eating all the wrong crap for two days straight... and worst of all, having to deal with the in-laws who are the overweight, balding, loud & obnoxious (i.e perfect stereotypical example of) Packer fans.

This sounds like one of my favorite movies,

I like Christmas. It's great watching your kids (I have three under 7 years old) open presents and really have a great time.

Anyone who picked Thanksgiving is a looney left secular progressive waging a war on Christmas.

my family and I never really cared that much for Thanksgiving. I prefer Christmas over thanksgiving any day of the week. The Christmas/New Years holiday to me is more fun and more food. I eat turkey all the time anyway. I don't just eat it at thanksgiving. so it's not that special to me.

I worked Christmas day at a 24-hour Osco one year. The place was packed. I couldn't believe how many people were out shopping that day.
