i dont understand how people can do well on the SAT reading without studying vocab...i mean quite a few of these vocab words you will never see in most books or ever you use in even the most advanced high school english....

i hate it because i get like 14/15 of the reading questions right and then miss like 2 out of the 5 of the vocab

I'm not a fan of standardized testing in general. But how many people would truly understand the concepts of unschooling? If you take the system for granted, you'll get really good at passing tests, but have a hard time actually learning and retaining actual knowledge.

*thank you internet* without it, we would see far more life failures.

It depends. I heard that they have lowered the standards a bit on the GED to boost college and military admissions.

When I took it, the state structure had set it up to be a money pit. You had to pay to take the test, and they wanted people to fail it. There was quite a controversy over it's difficulty. But that might have been linked to some of the affirmative action activists who saw barely any minorities passing the test at the time. I don't know.

If you go in prepared, then you'll be fine. If you fail it, then retake it as soon as you can.

Any recommendations on how to prepare? I've heard that the math is the hardest part. I've taken calc and have a little experience with diff eq. And then the vocab is also a real *****.

I took the GED in 98. You're better off asking someone who has passed it within the most current run of changes. I remember driving to the school, taking the test and getting the results. I don't remember what was on it

ya being book smart is one thing...but being great at tests means nothing if you have no life skills that are undeniably important in almost any job

Hahaha, alright.

I've heard different things. Like you need to study for months in advance or you can literally just cram the week before and be fine.

Thanks.

I didn't study, and I finished at the top of my class or whatever you wanted to call it. But for me, my prior work ethic in school prepared me, not the school system, but my ethic to constantly challenge the information presented in front of me.

At some point you have to ask yourself, is it smarter to study what other people say about the GED, or is it smarter to skip that trench of legwork and just go straight to the data. You'll quickly skip over everything you feel comfortable with, and eventually slow down and take a closer look at what you need to brush up on. There are GED books and websites that get you over that hump. Crack the whip, run through some practice tests, and you'll have your answer.

You, sir, are wise beyond your years. Good advise, thanks.

Mostly schools like University of Illinois-Springfield. Nothing big, I'm just worried my grades will screw me over.

You sound exactly like me. :beerbang:

Most state schools will let you in with an 18 and anything over a C average.

It's a joke.

Same thing in high school. Seems like it's almost impossible for a kid to fail or be held back anymore. If the kid doesn't do shit he didn't earn the right to move on in school. That's why all of these kids coming up think they deserve everything without earning anything. Parents need to spank their kids. Shit.

I only took the ACT and I believe I got a 32. Colleges put too much importance on the standardized tests though IMO.

Must be why some keep wanting to end net neutrality then.

In the funniest of ways, with amendments proposed, earmarks for side contracts, and everything in sight to take away the freedoms of the world wide web.

I got a 32 on mine. 36 is the max for whoever mentioned it earlier.

I got accepted into the Civil Engineering program and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. I didn't spend the necessary time studying and applying myself and eventually switched to the community college there. My problem was I was so naturally smart that in high school I did the minimum amount of everything, and got As pretty much in every class, even my accelerated classes. I would barely even look over stuff before tests and usually ace them. That stuff just doesn't fly in college.

I also smoked a lot of weed throughout all of high school and college.
