ugh. Not buying Patterson as Bruce Wayne.
Batman works because Bruce wayne is a carefree socialite that nobody would ever suspect as being batman.

Gotta give props for the fight scene though- at least until the guy goes down... very batman up to that point.
The out of control Haymakers once he had him down ruined it though.

I don't see why we can't give Carrot Top a shot as Batman.

I have never seen any of Patterson work. I assume he gets a lot of hate fromTwilight. I keep reading that people shouldnt sleep on him. He is a great actor. Im willing to give him a shot.

I will see it and see how it goes.
I despised heath ledger back in the day. All I really knew him from was Patriot with Mel Gibson, and I hated everything about his character.

I also disliked Christian bale as batman- hated the stiff way that he moved and his voice was hideous. Didn't like the first Nolan movie because I hated Liam Neeson as well.

With zero enthusiasm i go to see the second Nolan batman...and proceed to be blown away by ledger.
His joker was amazingly well done.

So- it is possible I have the same pleasant surprise coming this time around.

Huh, I don't think I've ever met anyone who didn't like Liam Neeson.

Yeah this looks like shit. Can't Hollywood come up with something other than another Batman movie? I mean for ****'s sake it's been done how many times now?

Personally I’m really excited! I’ve always loved Batman even as a kid and judging from the trailer, which only has 25% of the movie to work with due to COVID, this is going to be a pretty good movie. Anybody else think DC is starting to match Marvel? They’ve had a string of food movies since Aquaman with Wonder Woman, Joker, Suicide Squad. In 2021 they have The Batman, another suicide squad and Wonder Woman movie, plus Black Adam. Not to mention the Snyder Cut of Justice League.

I've enjoyed the DC movies.... but they are nowhere near Marvel in terms of franchise IMO.

Not because of movie quality or anything, but rather they haven't established a cadence on releases combined with a tie-in to the overall Universe of DC.

With Marvel, they had a wide band of releases for individual characters and made a point to tie them into something larger to drive viewer expectation.

With DC they didn't even do individual movies for every character who was in Justice League, before Justice League.

I think they can get there, but we need a lot more content coming out and tying together in a Universe.

Agreed. They’re not currently on Marvel’s level since marvel ran a train on DC for the last decade lol. I want to see them do a better job at fleshing our other characters as well. It seems like they have Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Joker but they’re almost afraid of trying out some less popular characters so they don’t have another flop. Nonetheless, they have taken some positive steps in the last couple years and marvel is kind of in a state of flux so we will see if they can gain ground.

I will say, if you want a franchise like Marvel, you cannot be juggling actors playing the major characters.... like... uh.... fucking Batman.

DC didn't even go into Justice League with a long term Batman.... that just kinda fucks the consistency of whatever you do next.

I don't feel they are interested in building a competing franchise, just cash in on the popularity of super hero movies.

I hope I am wrong, obviously.

Not to mention Henry Cavill is out as Superman. I was surprised they didn’t decide to do a Superman movie too since he’s one of their more popular characters. Also is it just me or is it hard to know what’s “Cannon”? Like is the dark knight trilogy even cannon anymore since The Batman is when Bruce has only been Batman for like 2 years which would put it in between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

Batman Begins and Dark Knight movies were their own thing, totally distinct from this crossover universe.

And yeah, I didn't realize Cavil was out as Superman.... so the only major character continuing is Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

If they want to build a franchise, they better hit a homerun on this Batman and do a trilogy that ties into the DC universe, and then hit another homerun on a new Superman with a new trilogy..... otherwise the only way it works is to reboot the entire thing.

i think it looks alright. Problem is, Christian Bale perfected the persona of both Batman and Bruce Wayne. All the other guys are either a great Batman or a great Bruce Wayne, in George Clooney. Most the other guys just play Batman playing Bruce Wayne. Kinda looks like what Pattison is doing in that short clip. Bale is the only one to perfect both personas in live action.

Actually I don't hate HIM...just never been a fan.
I could think of about 100 other actors I would rather have seen than him in that role.

On a similar note, I thought Tom hardy was a ridiculous choice for bane... until I saw the movie.
He was outstanding.

Bash me all you want, Affleck was the best.
He was a great bruce Wayne, captured Wayne the business man perfectly.
As batman, he was the greatest representation of batman fighting imo.

The scene where he saves Martha Kent was exactly how the comics and animated movies portray batman fighting.
What kicked it up a notch for me was the filming- no shakey cam, just well choreographed fighting.

As for bale- I hated his voice and his fighting style was stiff. He was portrayed as more of a bruiser than quick and crafty.

I think Affleck hit the mix of power and wits perfectly. (Omitting the armored suit fight of course).

The problem this movie (and other future batman movies) will have is, before buying tickets i'm going to ask myself: "Why would i watch this one instead of just rewatching one of the really good Nolan movies instead?" Maybe hardcore Batman/Superhero fans will need their fix of new content, but I imagine a large chunk of their viewers are looking more for a quality movie and less for another hit of masked man punching bad guy.

"A darker Batman".....

Over and over and over, until it's so dark, you'll need a spotlight in the theater to see it.

DC needs to swing harder towards the original Batman. He doesn't have to be dated either. Just avoid the guy talking like he's always constipated and grumpy. Make Bruce Wayne an every-man more like Adam West's near-perfection. And adapt the comics more like the Animated Series, less like a team of bean counters and ad execs twisting plots to please zero-attention span test groups.
