I like these guys' historic brews (they're a nice change-up from the normal stuff): http://www.williamsbrosbrew.com/beerboard

And who doesn't love them some Zombie Dust? http://www.3floyds.com/our-beers-2/

Golden Monkey from Victory is impressive: http://victorybeer.com/beers/

Allagash also makes some good stuff: http://www.allagash.com/beer/ Their Belgian White is awesome if you want something super light but still tasty.

Ohh, and Dragon's Milk from New Holland is just fucking incredible: http://newhollandbrew.com/beer/ I mean, how could you not like a 10% abv ale that's aged in oak barrels?
Have you ever done the Dark Lord from 3 Floyds?

Fucking love Allagash.

Golden Monkey and Zombie Dust are good too. We seem to like similar beers.

My favorite beer in the area (DuPage County) are beers from Two Brothers in Warrenville.

Big fan of hoppy beers. Almost exclusively drink IPAs these days. It sucks in a way because I can try other beers and appreciate them but find it hard to enjoy them as much. I like stouts, too. When I was in Chicago a few weeks ago I went to Three Floyds and got two cases of Zombie Dust and bombers of Dreadnaught and Arctic Panzer Wolf. All delicious.

I could make a long list of great beers, but here's a few I'm really enjoying a lot right now.

Zombie Dust
Firestone Walker Union Jack, Double Jack and Wookey Jack
Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale
Ska Modus Hoperandi
Ballast Point Sculpin IPA (probably my #1 right now)

Cheers

A bunch of my friends had tickets to Dark Lord Day this spring, but I was in Africa that month :crying: Actually, I guess I can't really be bummed by that (month and a half in South Africa followed up by a few weeks wandering through Bavaria, Austria, Lichtenstein, and Switzerland). Of course I told the assholes to save me one, but it was all gone by the time I got back.

Hey Scoot, I played baseball about a block from Two Brothers growing up and am currently living about a mile from there (just moved back to the area). They do make some pretty good shit. Kind of hit and miss though; the Resistance IPA and Northwind Stout are both excellent, while the Monarch White, Outlaw, and Domaine DuPage I could deal without (not that they're terrible, just not that great).

Which have you had?

Some of the more popular ones like Hoegaarden, Blue Moon (which I don't count for much), etc. I've also tried a few from Unibroue. Maudite and another I can't remember, maybe La Fin Du Monde. Ive also had Grand Cru from Great Divide.

I just don't like that distinct flavor most Belgians have...maybe from the yeast or something.

Really want to try this..

There's a small brewery here in Rockford named Carlyle, it's actually right next to my work, but they have a great vanilla beer. Too bad only a few of my friends enjoy going there. It's more of a cozy bar with no tvs.

Had a beer at the BMSR show on Thursday called Baby Jesus from Apocalypse Brew Works in Louisville. It's an IPA. Pretty tasty, nice hoppy flavor. Pretty easy to drink.

Those are Belgian style, not Belgians. The exception being Hoegaarden, which is ok. The Unibroue beers are pretty good though.

Picked up a 12 pack of Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat. Seasonal, but pretty decent.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread for a few excellent beers I've been drinking lately. First off, Bells Hopslam came.out and I finally got a chance to try it. While it is a very good IPA, and quite strong at over 10% abv, I feel like its not as good as its hyped to be.

On the other hand, I have found my new favorite beer. Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute. Holy shit, this beer is simply amazing. It's listed as an imperial IPA, but at 7.8% its exteremely drinkable. It smells and tastes of intense fruity hops, mostly tropical fruits. If you like fruity, west coast style hoppy IPAs with subtle malts, this beer is for you. The only bad thing is I think its a seasonal release. My buddy and I have already bought quite a few of these from the local hyvee before it runs out. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Apparently my father thinks I'm not enough of an alcoholic, so for x-mas he got me: Wittekerke Winter Wit (a solid Witbier), Delirium Christmas (I'm bottle-aging for a few months, so I haven't has it yet), Sam New World (a really heavy triple belgian), and a bottle of Glentauchers 1990. Not sure why he went all out on the belgians this year; not that I mind or anything, it's just not my favorite style (I think imperial stouts currently are).
