They end up with a guy like J.R. Smith or (T-Mac's teammate) Rip Hamilton.

Tracy McGrady is finally getting minutes and shining: Tracy McGrady Stats, News, Photos - Detroit Pistons - ESPN (look at his last 5 games and tell me that he's not the best player on the Pistons...)

I'm not saying that I'd prefer a guy like McGrady long-term over a guy like Shannon Brown (another guy they should not have passed up on). But if they end up doing something like trading Taj Gibson and trash for Rip Hamilton and his $25M remaining on his contract (when they could have had T-Mac for the veteran's minimum)....

that would be awful.

T-mac has been super injury prone these last few seasons. Yeah he's good when he plays, but how long will he play? I can understand why they didn't wanna take a chance on a guy who played 6 games last season, 20 games the season before that and 30 games the season before that

I strongly disagree with that. Smith is a chucker and rarely passes the ball. He dribbles into bad situations.

T-Mac is a great point forward on offense. He is so much better of a passer than Smith and has much better shot selection. His defense is just as good, too.

The day has come, where we compare JR Smith to T-Mac.

I know we're desperate, but THIS desperate? The only thing next, is seeking the D-League for the next Matt Barnes.

By the way, I'm not saying that T-Mac would have been a good fit on the Bulls.

All I'm really saying is that the Bulls would be much better off with T-Mac over Hamilton because

(A) McGrady is overall a better player than Hamilton despite not being as good of a complementary piece to Rose, and (B) ---most importantly--- he would have come cheap.

Both of these players are aging and injury-prone, so pulling out that card won't work in this case.

GTFOH!!!

Smith is a better player at this point. And no...TMac is not the best player on his team...you gotta be kidding me. Nor is his shot selection historically any better and its not now. He is taking the same shots he always took, he is hitting them is all. And its been a week. You gotta be kidding me with this stuff. TMac can't keep up with NBA shooting guards. I would rather have Kyle Korver right now....you cannot analyze two players based on a stat sheet...covering 5 games.

Good grief...the guy averages 12 points and 3 assists and he's Magic Johnson? Give me a break. Smith is a better player and no that is not a matter of opinion. That is factual. McGrady can't guard the players Smith can and cannot score the way Smith can at this stage.

Well, we are talking about opinions here, bro. If I were to say that Jordan > Stuckey then that would be an opinion, too.

McGrady healthy is definitely better than Smith in my opinion. He isn't as explosive as Smith anymore but that hardly even matters seeing as though J.R. is a chucker.

And what Piston player is better than McGrady now that he's healthy? Stuckey? Hamilton? Prince? Bynum? Villanueva? I don't think you have a good case to make, sir...

By the way, McGrady is playing SF these days.

J.R. Smith and his 12 points and 39% FG percentage is not even close to even the injured version of Tracy McGrady.

he can't jump. i prefer brewer and korver to t-mac. i don't like jr smith cause he's fucking crazy, but if the bulls got smith on this team for 5-6 million by trading kurt thomas, jj, scal, and bogans, i wouldn't complain. If we traded anyone other than bogans for t-mac, i'd be livid.

we dont really need a point forward. we need a guy who can defend the 2 w/o too many problems, help the bench out, help take some pressure off rose with his ball handling, and can help by shooting. JR smith fits the bill. he's not ideal, but he's not bogans. hou said his defense isn't bad earlier, i'll take his word for it.

that's my point. we don't need another guy whose too slow to guard 2's. we don't need a 30 year old 6-8 forward playing our hole at the 2. we've got deng, korver, brewer, and even jj. we've got plenty of 3's. our problem is at the 2.

So you based all of this on a statsheet covering the last 5 games and seeing him play against the Bulls? GTFOH!!! You want me to name other players who are shooting 40% from the field who are better than McGrady? There are plenty of them. McGrady isn't top 5 on his own team...I really have no idea where you are coming from...

Hamilton still plays the SG position, McGrady CAN"T!!! So why are you bringing him up again?

TMac can't defend the SG position or hit the 3 with any consistency (though he'll throw a lot up there and make a few). That's not what we need. We need to somehow combine Brewer and Korver into another player and that's who we need at the 2 spot. Closest I can think of is Mayo if he can play better than he is now or Afflalo. TMac? I think not...

The thing about Brewer and Korver is that they have upside over T-Mac. Korver is much better off the ball and a much better shooter. Brewer is much more athletic, better on defense, and takes high percentage shots.

Smith doesn't much upside over T-Mac because he rarely even uses his athleticism because he is busy putting up contested shots. I'm not basing this on nothing but the stat sheet. I've seen both of these guys play often enough this season.

I'd say T-Mac is still the "best" player of all of those guys because he still has the ability to get into rhythym and score. He isn't completely depleted of his jumping ability either. He just doesn't have much explosiveness anymore.

And T-Mac is a way better passer and playmaker than any of those guys.

But again, I'm not saying T-Mac is still on All-star level or that I'd want him on the Bulls. I'm just saying that I'd rather the Bulls had him than Rip Hamilton- especially considering the money.

That's why I made this thread. If we got Rip Hamilton (or J.R. Smith for that matter) then we will regret not getting a cheap old guy like Tracy McGrady... that's just how bad the situation would be and I don't want it to happen.

TMac is not better than Smith right now. Maybe in his prime, but that's long gone.
