It's amazing what a victory will do for the psyche of a struggling hockey team.
During the Blackhawks' practice Saturday in Chicago the mood was light as they took the ice around 12 hours after defeating the Ottawa Senators 3-2 in a shootout. The victory was just the Hawks' second in their last six games.
"It definitely helped," coach Joel Quenneville said Saturday. "We talked going into the third period that going forward we have to get something out of these types of games when it's tied. You get these type of games to overtime you can get two points. That's what we have to be strogner going forward. I just thing we have to put something together now. There's still another level to our game that we can get to and that's what we're going to push for."
One-timers: Also adding to the fun at practice was the appearances by several members of the 1961 Stanley Cup champions, including Stan Mikita, Ad McDonald, Glenn Hall, Bill Hay and Wayne Hicks. Hall, one of the NHL's all-time great goaltenders, met with current netminders Marty Turco and Corey Crawford. The Hawks will honor the 50th anniversary of the '61 Cup win prior to Sunday night's game against the New York Islanders at the United Center. ... Crawford will make his fifth consecutive start in that game.
