Why would Steve Kerr leave coaching the Warriors, who look like they can win the next 8 titles, to come to Chicago? Because he won 3 titles here? He won a title in San Antonio, he's not there. He's from Arizona, and he left a FO with the Suns.

Kerr is from all over but he went to HS in California just outside of LA.

Also, holy shit this story from wiki:

'His 52-year-old father Malcolm was murdered by the Islamic Jihad (later, elements of Islamic Jihad formed Hezbollah), on the morning of January 18, 1984, while he was serving as president of the American University of Beirut in Beirut. His father was shot twice in the back of his head, by gunmen using silencer-equipped revolvers, in the hallway outside his office.[4][6][7][8] Kerr was 18 years old at the time, and a college freshman.[5] Steve Kerr said: "Before my father was killed, my life was impenetrable. Bad things happened to other people."[3] The Kerr family sued the Iranian government under the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996.[9] While warming up for a game at Arizona State in 1988, Kerr had to deal with a number of fans in the crowd chanting "PLO" and "your father’s history".[10][11] Though teary-eyed, Kerr scored 20 points in the first half, making all six of his 3-point attempts.

A couple nit-picking things regarding that chart:

* John Paxson is no longer GM.
* Jim Paxson has a different role than Executive VP
* Randy Brown was Assistant to the GM. Not Asst. GM
* Summer League means next to nothing.

In any event, we know how much JR values loyalty, the bigger question is how does Michael Reinsdorf feel about things.

It also kind of ignores that people tend to hire people they are comfortable with or surround themselves with familiar faces in every league in pro sports. It's the same reason why when Pace became GM everyone started up the rumors of possible moves of Saints personnel to the Bears etc. Does the Bulls FO really look all that different than others?

Yeah. I heard that story about his father being targeted and murdered and its impact on Steve. Both of these men were/are very intelligent people and I think basically very good people. Its a shame things like this happen to good people. ANd to those idiots who yelled that shit from the crowd, hope your dicks fall off!

Wasn't Kerr's father also an American ambassador at one time prior to this?

...I kind of feel like this front office has this stubborn ideology that we can win with grit alone and with certain set pieces. It's the same problem I have as a Steelers fan in football where we have GLARING holes in our defensive secondary and our defensive line is thin because Mike Tomlin doesn't trust the two other D-linemen who are riding the bench. Stephon Tuitt and Cam Heyward took over 90 snaps in the regular season and it took them until our playoff game against Denver to realize that we could get pressure more often if he installed a guy like Steve McLendon at NT to get pressure on the QB. But I digress.

Here's the thing, we're gimped to death. We've got two players who were cogs to this Hoiberg machine and we're flaccid on the offense because no one can move the ball, and on defense we're slow footed and we're getting beat off dribble. And I feel like the front office is either out of touch with what makes a GOOD basketball team--because to me, I rather have a well oiled machine who play like All-Stars in their own right when the time calls for them to do their job. I respect teams like the Spurs or GS, hell I respect teams like Minnesota because their BUILDING something for the future and that's great!

And I feel like this front office in a sense is sort of deaf to talent and likes to try and give coaches new projects to work with...like Tony Snell...or whatever that pick was with Marquis Teagues. What they need to realize is that, the times where we were beating people up during the regular season through great defense, great depth, and a healthy D-Rose are gone, man. They need to realize that we're bottom heavy with no one on top in our backcourt, we don't have any swingmen...I don't know if you'd count Jimmy as that, and our depth is paper thin. We're a solid team, don't get me wrong, we show flashes of great basketball; But in order to keep this team above .500 we need more pieces. I don't really want SUPERSTARS I just want good players who know their roles and are willing to dash away their egos and just play.

That's my mistake. For some reason I never think a white guy playing college basketball can come from anywhere other than in state.

I think having Thibodeaux as HC gave the front office a much larger margin of error when it came time to draft players. It was like they saw one NBA-type attribute in Snell and Teague, and figured Thibs could simply "round out" the rest of their game like he did with Jimmy Butler. I think McDermott was almost like a Thibs pick...they figured Thibs could get him to at least play adequate NBA defense and then his shooting would be an asset. The problem is that Hoiberg is trying to figure out himself what the NBA is about...how can he help his players at the same time?

The thing with Jimmy was he was already a pretty good defender and Thibs was there to give him that push to be an even better one. The offense didn't come around until Derrick was down for nearly two seasons and he had to step up to the plate. When Jimmy got confident and felt like he was in his own skin, that's when he started to emerge, you know? With Teague and Snell the problem underlying those picks were that front office, and this is a bold accusation, those were throwaway picks. There's no way the FO thought these picks were going to make any changes, I don't believe that for a second. And the case with McD...I feel like...he's a pretty solid player, it's not good on defense. I feel like they need to use him like they did with Kyle in the office where they need to play to his strength and have him move without the ball. I mean he as a good inside game, he's really good, and he has a nice stroke. The thing is we get thumped out of our offense sometimes that we lose rhythm and we end up taking bad shots.

If I was Fred, I'd draw up some stuff with Doug. They need him off the dribble, if he's playing the 3 he needs to move to get his shot. Tony? I'd rather bench him this season, because I think having in a starting rotation is a little too much for him and he's overwhelmed with the responsibility of playing SG and SF and guarding far superior slashers/shooter guards and athletic 3's. If sacrifice having Mike Dunleavy at the 2 and Dougie at the 3 for the remainder of this season until we get our other two pieces back from injury. That's me though.

If Doug can't make shots off the dribble, off a pass, or spotting up - he's just wasting a roster spot.

I said earlier this season that the Bulls thought they had a championship caliber team and all they needed to do is get rid of Thibs and bring in an offensive mind to put them over the top. I always thought that was stupid and was going to backfire. My guess is that the Bulls think that they will be a championship contender when they get healthy. Butler will be back before the playoffs and Dunleavy will have had time to play into shape.

My guess is that the Bulls still believe. After the season ends the Bulls management my be a little more open shaking some things up a bit. We may have to go through the brutal truth completely before they recognize what this team is.

I agree that they should have taken the trade as GarPax's specialty has been drafting and developing well. Hinrich (who is gone again), MDJ, and Pau are all 35. Brooks is 31, and Noah and Taj are both 30. Taj and Pau have been pretty healthy and productive for their ages but as the rest of them? Sheesh.

The bolded used to be a strength but 3 of the past 4 seasons they've been brutal.

Teague over Draymond Green, Crowder, Barton

Snell over Gobert and Dieng

Trading up for Doug over LaVine or staying put. Yes, the 30 point game was nice but don't get used to it.
