1 year of Keenan Allen who is up for a contract is a good thing, even if we don’t resign him.
Not that Keenan isn't gonna be good, but I would have saved the money and draft pick and just signed Tyler Boyd.
its not a steep price to pay if chicago gets back a comp pick for him
He has been in the league for 10 years, going on 11 and typically doesn't play in preseason. I highly doubt he will go full speed until the season starts.Just thinking about JT O'Sullivan's recent call outs about how slow Keenan Allen was looking in the preseason game has me wondering what are our expectations for him this season?
He had 108 receptions, 1243 yds in only 13 starts last season which says a lot about the amount of targets he was getting and how bad the other Charger receivers were. That won't happen this year, so let's say 95 catches 1,050 yds.
Poles traded a 4th rounder and everyone has been complimentary of the move, but that would be a steep price to pay for a one year rental. KA is set to make $18 mil this year and has repeatedly said he wants an extension and to stay here. So what do we expect that new contract to look like??
My guess is 2 more years 40 million with incentives, that makes it 3y/$58M total with the Bears...
Who says Yay, & who says Nay??
We'll have to see what happens. With an abundance of draft picks and plenty of up and coming talent that will need extensions in the next couple years, Poles might just opt to sign a couple low tier guys to fill holes or work the release market. We're approaching that stage where we won't need (hopefully) nor shouldn't be looking to sign big money free agents and just reserve that for our core guys.Seeing a lot of posters talking about 'let him go for comp picks,' pretending that the bears don't shoot themselves in the foot, offsetting compensation for comp picks. I remember Allen Robinson getting 15 mil per and James Daniels 9 and expected something, even a 5th or 6th, and they nothing because they signed bum ass Al Quadin Mohammed who offset the formula.
You don't get comp picks unless you lose guys and replace them with drafted guys or FAs who were cut/not eligible to count against the comp pick formula.

Ozempic timeJust read that Brier (or someone like him) reported that Allen reported at 230 lbs (vs 210 last year).....if true, not a good sign for an extension foe a 30+ year old
Maybe he should be TE1 vs Odunze??
If Rome plays well this year, he will be the 2 next year and you let Allen walk and find a different veteran FA WR to be the 3 at a cheaper price
For a 3 you could look in the draft. We have 2 2nds plus whatever else Poles can do.
I would prefer keeping Allen and focusing the draft elsewhere but a 2nd round WR would be making chess moves ahead like Poles likes.
Any good vet WR is going to be as expensive as Allen and the bad ones are still bad. However if we could find a Robinson who wasn't going to be used as a #1 by the Bears that could be a long term affordable solution.
