Here is my brief rebuttal to the increasing amount of fines levied by the NFL coupled with the annual new rules changes for the past decade or so designed to promote offense.

Defensive players are paid to hit people, that's football. If you wish to continually water down the game, then get out of the game. Julius Peppers should not have to say "excuse me" prior to not leveling a QB, let alone slowing up beforehand.

Signed, old school.

I understand some of your concerns and "want" to agree with you however player safety is a huge concern. I am all for keeping the players safe, however some of the flags they call are wildly in favor of the QB. They are the moneymakers/faces of the franchise so it makes sense.

The only thing I hate about all these new rules is how they will fine James Harrison 75k from the steelers for hits on the field, in the heat of the action. And then only fine Finnegan/Johnson 25k for a full fledged fist fight without helmets...bringing TONS of bad publicity to the league.

You are condemning players for hits while playing the game....but not fighting AFTER a play?

While I can fully understand the league prohibiting helmet to helmet contact, I still question the NFL definition of a "defenseless player". The new rules implemented for this season allow an ordinate amount of discretion. They allow a ref to decide if and when a receiver id defenseless:

The Defenseless Receiver Rule: Under the old rule, the NFL only looked to eliminate helmet-to-helmet hits on defenseless receivers. Now, flags are thrown at shoulder and forearm hits to the head or neck area on a defenseless receiver. Here's the catch, the actual rule has a HUGE gray area. It tells an already confused ref crew to give 3 tenths of one second for a receiver to catch a ball before a defensive player makes contact.

More touch football if you ask me b/c you are asking D players to change their mechanics.

They want to run it as a business like Rush said, QB's are the ones who promote the sport, and sell alot of merchandise for their franchise so ofc they're gonna protect them. AS of right now tho i find that the rules are ambiguous in the sense that there are many no-calls on those new rules, and there are the calls that are made and that shouldn't be... (not just concerning qbs)
