Being that the person's intelligence is a characteristic thereof, one can argue that questioning one's intelligence can be construed as an ad hominem attack.
But it would be nice if people would debate based on the content of the argument rather than how Special person the person who made the argument is. Even if they are really Special person. People can learn more that way instead of walking away all butthurt.
