I don't go by what the NHL defines.....practically anything anymore. From hitting to turnovers to goaltending, the list goes on. Too inconsistent, too many holes, too much of an antiquated mind set on the game.</p>

I agree with you though that checking is different from hitting. In that area I put guys like Toews and Hossa and Sharp as some of the better forward "checkers" on the team and in the league.  Saad is going to be one of them as well and Kane has gotten better in that area every season, this being his best yet. Keith and Hammer are great examples of that on the d-man end of the game. That's another way of saying what I was with playing the puck, playing their puck possession game. That's how they're built. Not to go out and give big hits, but  to pressure the puck handler with stick checking, poke checks, lifting the stick, back checking,etc,  they are among or the best team in doing that.</p>
