The difference between being in the first Sunday slate and SNF is significant. Lots more than just seven hours. The Bears did not get to sleep at the same hour the Lions did and if you listened to Nagy's press conference you'll notice the Bears players hadn't even been to the building yet. Not so with Detroit.

Gonna be a tough game. Thank God they beat Minnesota because you could easily be talking about a 3 game slide.

Are you saying you think they are losing to both Detroit and the Giants? I don’t think any NFL game is easy but I believe the Bears will be ready to play.

The payoff will be a mini bye for the home stretch to division champs!

Just need to win 4 of the next 6 games and we are a lock for the playoffs for the first time in almost a decade.

3 actually will probably do it but 4 is the guarantee....

Detroit, NY, SF, and GB are all winnable.....the Vikings and Rams will be tough games that we will probably not be favored in.

You're saying 3 more wins is a division lock? Or 3 more wins is a playoff lock? From what I remember it looked like 9 games got you into the playoffs via wildcard and 10 or more was for the division.

Well any more than 11 wins clinches the division outright, since that is the win ceiling for the Vikings if they win out. Something tells me the Vikings aren't going to plow through GB, @NE, @SEA and MIA without suffering a loss or two though. So really the Bears realistic target should be 11 wins, which is outside the grasp of Green Bay even if 12 runs the table.

So 4-2 the rest of the way. This @DET business is so fucked up with the short week, it's very annoying, but they claw a win out Thanksgiving that really makes things easy.

This is correct.

If you actually crunch the numbers and look at the schedules for the contenders, 9 wins will almost certainly get the Bears/Vikings in the playoffs, and 10 will likely be enough for the division, depending on what happens Week 17 @Minnesota.

IDK, you have CAR, SEA, WAS/DAL, and MIN/CHI all fighting for a WC slot. That's a lot of teams in the hunt. I'm not sure 9 wins gets it done with 4 teams.

I think only ones you list there that would be in play for a wildcard spot would be MIN or CAR.

WAS IMO is dead in the water with Alex Smith's injury despite leading their division right now. They're 6-4 with Dallas behind them at 5-5 staring at games with the Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Jaguars, Titans and then the Eagles again.

SEA is 5-5 staring down the barrel of the Panthers, 49ers, Vikings, 49ers again, Chiefs and Cardinals. We beat SEA so they would lose that tie breaker if it came to it anyways.

CAR is 6-4 facing the Seahawks, Buccaneers, Browns, Saints, Falcons and Saints again. I can see CAR getting to 9-7 or 10-6 from that remaining schedule. Their only path to the playoffs is as the wildcard because the Saints are a lock for that division barring an injury to Brees.

MIN is 5-4-1 facing the Packers, Patriots, Seahawks, Dolphins, Lions and then Bears. Kirk Cousins better learn how to play well in big games because he has a lot of them coming up.

If I had to take a guess who gets the wildcard in the NFC its probably CAR or CHI if they shit the bed dropping some games down the road here.

My thoughts exactly. It sounds outlandish, but the math and upcoming matchups back it up—Both NFC Wild Card teams will probably have 9 wins. The only exceptions I could see are if the Panthers catch a heater and get to 10, or the Bears win 3 more games, but lose the rest of their NFC North games—neither seems super likely.

Basically, there’s several 5-win teams and Carolina. Carolina has to play the Saints twice more, and also Seattle. It doesn’t seem likely they win 4 of 6, but I guess I wouldn’t be super surprised. None of the 5-win teams are likely to win 5 of 6.

There also Washington at 6 wins, but with the Alex Smith injury, I think either they fall off or somehow limp to a division title. It seems unlikely there’ll be a 10-win Wild Card team in the East.

I made a thread Sunday night that did a pretty deep dive into this hypothesis. Nothing is perfect and improbable things do happen, but just by the numbers, it checks out.

Meh. The Lions have a similar turn around and are bad.

Bears got this!

The Lions have beaten NE and Carolina. They are at home with no travel time against a Bears team coming off a major victory against a rival, less rest, has to travel, and a dinged up QB.

Bears don't have shit.

This may be the quickest, but the best turn around is the Texans starting 0-3 and then winning 7 (and counting) in a row.

The Saints took one L then have won every single game since, 9 and counting. I would say that is the best turn around if that is what you're talking about.

defense looks gassed as I expected. wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that they had 85 hours between games...

After week 2 of every NFL season we always hear how teams that start 0-2 almost never make the playoffs. The Texans started worse than that at 0-3, and are not only in position to make the playoffs, but are also on a 8 game winning streak.

The Saints season seems more likely to have happened.

LOL @ the fools that thought the Bears were at some major disadvantage. If Trubs had played, the Lions would've gotten rekt.
