After viewing and debating a few posters on this subject in a couple of threads, I'd like to see what the community feels on this subject.

I kinda like it but I feel it is insignificant because it doesn't get used terribly often. I think the most rating I've seen lately is a +4. That's not a lot for some of our more robust threads.

Also if someone got butt hurt over a bad rating....grow a pair. I've said plenty of things that get me plenty of negatives.

I won't vote in the poll since none of the options really sum up how I feel.

LOL

I was just wondering if it was really needed.

We're a community, and I was interested if this is something that is worth keeping.

I don't think it really matters either way. It certainly isn't needed but doesn't mean because it isn't needed it should go the way of the dodo. I mean stu's ability to post isn't needed but we let him have it anyway.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers

I think it's necessity is less on boads like this.

Right now there's a certain "community" feel to it. It's not a free-for-all board like the O-boards where you get riffraff from everywhere of varying hockey knowledge. Here, the knowledge seems high, the opinions are defintily more sound, and the opinions can be more opinionated. But, a the same time I get the feel that if anyone comes on this board, they are expected to know or learn the game enough to back up an observation and do it quasi-intelligently. Any off-topic post is expected to be backed up factually or stated as pure opinion and it is somewhat civil regardless of differences of opinion.

I think that some people take it way too seriously and should probably be the ones who don't use it. In such cases I think maybe the ability for members to be able to turn it off for themselves would be good (they can't vote, see votes, ect...). Don't know if that's possible, kind of like hiding sigs, but I actually think it's kind of ridiculous that we even have to have this conversation about something so trivial.

I like to use it as a 'hey nice job' or when I agree with a post and don't want to say 'ditto'.

How about:

1. Folks who don't use it (for whatever reasons) continue to refrain from using it.

2. Folks who use it continue to use it.

Exactly like other board options people have at their disposal to use or refrain from using like having Friends or not, having signatures or not, ignoring others signatures or not, ignoring images or not, ignoring certain Members or not, creating a custom Member Title or not, and so on.

Makes too much sense, therefore it won't work here.

For all intents and purposes the feature allows people to "star" a post since there is no actual "star" rating system for them. Same difference to my mind and since we've always had the ability to "star" or not star entire threads as well as the ability to "star" or not star Members in their Profiles I really don't see what the difference is.
