I have told this story before of how Eric Clapton heard the Band's record "Big Pink" and decided he no longer wanted to be a rock virtuoso and join The Band. Here is him telling the story

He is the story from The Band's side (Robbie Robertson) about hearing that Clapton wanted to break up Creem and join his band

Ommy, have you seen the Ginger Baker documentary, yet? It's on Netflix. It's great.

He just couldn't stand it, so instead of touring and doing cocaine, he decided he wanted to change the world.

I wish jack bruce and ginger baker had continued without him. not that clapton was bad in cream-- it was his best work imo, but they could have survived

I agree. As a duo, or replace Clapton with _________?

Of course!

I liked some of the stuff Baker did with Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden, but it was a bit too similar to what Frisell did prior with Power Tools. Except this track, which is the closest they came to a Cream sound. Not close enough though.
