yeah, I don't buy that for a second. it's not like contentious songwriting relationships are a novelty

Of course!

I liked some of the stuff Baker did with Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden, but it was a bit too similar to what Frisell did prior with Power Tools. Except this track, which is the closest they came to a Cream sound. Not close enough though.

I bought this album when it came out. I was a teenager, so no one else in my school knew it existed but I was a jazz drummer and a huge Cream fan at the time.

I wish jack bruce and ginger baker had continued without him. not that clapton was bad in cream-- it was his best work imo, but they could have survived

What does Jack Bruce have in common with coffee? They both suck without cream.

(I actually don't believe either one of those things. I like my coffee black, and I like the stuff that Bruce did when he formed Lifetime with Tony Williams and John McLaughlin. Tony started playing drums with Miles Davis when he was 17. Tony and Elvin Jones (John Coltrane) are my two favorite drummers.)

Montreal?

That's where I saw him, and the Davis concert too. McLaughlin was in Edmonton, lol.

Edmonton actually had a great jazz scene for a few years. Saw guys like Chico Hamilton, Scofield, Mike Stern, Herb Ellis, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, Johnny Griffin, Jim Hall. Too mnay to list. We lived near an old public bus depot that was turned into a jazz bar called the Yardbird Suite. So many good acts, until DuMaurier had to pull sponsorship because they were a devil company who sold smokes.

I envy you. my teenage idols were Davis and McLaughlin. Davis died and McLaughlin went really fringe and wish I could have seen them perform.

I saw them a decade apart. Davis was doing his Decoy and You're Under Arrest stuff, which I liked more than most. McLaughlin was with Chambers and Joey DeFrancesco. Three very strong, and extremely robust players. It was like a blues power trio. Almost too much for more of a club setting.

Damn. Is he ill, do you know?

He started looking like that earlier this year. I remember pictures floating around drummer message boards, and everyone was wondering what was going on. Back in July, he was admitted to a hospital in Europe (Italy? Sweden, maybe?), but there was no clear announcement on what was wrong. Then, his wife put out a statement saying that it was a private matter and that they wouldn't be making any statements about his health, so I stopped following the story. Apparently, he's out of the hospital and recovering, though.
